Cougar Tales: Director's Cut (September 2014)

ACTION REQUIRED

If you are reading this September issue of Cougar Tales I want to thank you for staying informed about activities and programs that impact our students and alumni.  You are exhibiting model alumni behavior, and leading by example is a predictable and contagious form of influence.

How you can help the College (as a model informed advocate) is by asking a few standard questions of your fellow alumni – your classmates, your sorority sisters or fraternity brothers, or your new CofC acquaintances.

Make these questions part of every conversation with your fellow Cougars as if it were expected behavior; because it is.   The minute you cross the cistern it is model behavior for alumni to stay informed, get involved and give back.  This is not unique to the College of Charleston. This is true at all great universities that value and respect the relevance of their alumni.  So, here we go…

  1. Are you receiving the College of Charleston Magazine? If “yes” that means we have the alumnus’ current mailing address. That’s a great first step. For the record, “yes, I receive it at my parent’s(s’) house” is only acceptable if the alumnus is actually living with his or her parent(s).
  2. Are you receiving emails about alumni chapter events in our area? If “Yes” that means we have a current email address.  That’s a very positive second step.
  3. If there is no alumni chapter in your area discuss creating one. For questions about alumni chapters contact Meredith Chance, Assistant Director of Chapter Development at chancem@cofc.edu; or you can get more information on the alumni chapter website.
  4. Have you recently or would you consider visiting campus to attend an event?; or would you consider meeting me at one of our local alumni chapter events?

Updating your alumni profile can be done by calling (843) 953-5630 or emailing the alumni office at alumni@cofc.edu.  You can also do so at MyCofC, the alumni online community.

Again, for those of you that are already “all in”, we thank you for modeling the way.
