2015 Ring Ceremony
On December 8, 177 students gathered with their family and friends in a full house at the Sottile Theatre for the Ring Ceremony. This ceremony celebrates those students who have completed at least 60 credit hours and have achieved junior or senior year standing and have purchased their ring, a common bond between those who have graduated in the past and those who will graduate in the future. This annual event is hosted by the College of Charleston Alumni Association.

The Story Behind the CofC Ring
The Official College of Charleston Class Ring was adopted in 1995. Its design is based upon the rings donated to the College by Pierrine Smith Byrd ’22 and George Byrd ’21, the College’s first female graduate and her husband.
The seal of the College of Charleston is derived from the City of Charleston's seal, which was adopted in 1783. The College's seal was approved by the Board of Trustees in 1843 and features the Latin phrases meaning, "Wisdom Itself Is Liberty" and "She watches over her buildings, her customs and her laws." In the College’s seal, the seated woman is described as a personification of Charleston herself. She is shown presenting a laurel wreath to a young man holding a diploma in front of a classroom building.
