Cougar Tales: Director's Cut (February 2015)

Can't Hide the Pride

Each year in celebration of Founder’s Day, the College of Charleston strives to highlight the breadth and depth of Cougar Pride, with a one-day event called “Can’t Hide the Pride”. On this day, we encourage every Cougar (alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends) to show their pride in any and every imaginable way – feel free to use creative license here, there are no boundaries when it comes to Cougar pride.

So, on March 20, pull out your College of Charleston gear, show your pride, snap a pic, and post it on Facebook or Instagram (@cofcalumni) with #CantHideThePride, or email us at alumni@cofc.edu. We will award prizes to the farthest away, largest group and most creative.

As this very handsome young Cougar suggests (yes, that is my grandson, forgive my gushing, but it’s my right as a grandfather), it doesn’t matter whether the logo is current or vintage. We just want to see you in CofC gear. Don’t have anything to wear?  Then visit the College of Charleston Bookstore online, or if you live in Charleston take a peak in the new College Corner at 327 King Street.

On Can’t Hide the Pride Day, we want to see the CougarNation in full effect across the country and around the world, whether that is flying a CofC flag, wearing your College of Charleston rings, lapel pins, jerseys, ties, neck gaiters, t-shirts, warm-ups or anything maroon-and-white. We want it to be obvious you are a Cougar while at work, plowing snow in New England, yachting in St. Kitts, getting married in Pittsburg, riding the Metro in D.C., playing golf at Torrey Pines, walking the Great Wall of China, taking in a play on Broadway, helping the sick in West Africa, researching a cure for Alzheimer’s, addressing the United Nations, or attending a CofC athletic event. If you’re lucky enough to be on campus (there are 500 alumni that work on campus) we will be showing our pride with photo booths, student athletes wearing their uniforms, and a scavenger hunt! I know what you’re thinking – why didn’t we have this fun stuff when we were in school.

Additionally, this year we are offering this storefront sticker to all alumni who own a business. If a College of Charleston alum owns it, we know it must be first class. Email us at alumni@cofc.edu with your name, class year, business name, website, and mailing address and we will get one of these into the mail for you.

As a fellow alumnus I know there is a lot to be proud of, so I’m looking forward to seeing your #CantHideThePride submissions come March 20.
