April 2019

1975

Demetria Noisette Clemons, of Columbia, SC, is the 2019 recipient of the President Theodore Stern Visionary Award. The award was announced at the ExCEL (Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership) awards ceremony held on campus. She has devoted her professional life to the field of education and serves as Vice Chair of the College's Board of Trustees.

1978

Paul Runey is the Athletic Director and Girls' Basketball Coach at Bishop England High School on Daniel Island, SC. He has been a coach at Bishop England for 45 years, 35 of those years as the girls' basketball coach. The Lady Bishops won the Class AAA state basketball championship in March, giving him 709 wins during his time as the Lady Bishops' coach.

1981

Cheryll Novak Woods-Flowers (MS '99) was a recipient of the International Sterling Society Award in 2018. She is an Accredited Luxury Home Specialist and Military Relocation Specialist for Coldwell Banker in Mount Pleasant, SC.

1983

Florence Belser was named to the SC Public Service Commission for District 2 in February. She earned her JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987, and previously served as general counsel in the Office of Regulatory Staff from 2004 to 2019. She has also been the Director of the American Legion Auxiliary's Palmetto Girls State for more than 20 years and lives in Columbia, SC.

1985

Mitchell Leverette has been appointed the Acting Assistant Director, Energy, Minerals, and Realty Management for the Bureau of Land Management in Washington, D.C. He has worked for more than 30 years in key positions at the Bureau, and serves on the College's Alumni Association Board of Directors and the School of Sciences and Mathematics Board of Advocates.

1988

Robb Imbus was promoted to Commercial Lines Practice Leader for USI Insurance Services in Charleston, SC. He is responsible for leading the company's business development efforts within the region. He and his wife, Kimberly, live in Mount Pleasant, SC.

1989

Jennie Stephens is the Chief Executive Officer for the Center for Heirs' Property Preservation in Charleston, SC. She and her team help protect heirs' property and promote its sustainable use to provide increased economic benefit to historically under-served families.

1990

Mary Bergstrom was recognized at the 2019 Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Awards as The Unsung Champion among staff at the College. A resident of Charleston, SC, she has served as the Registrar since 2007, and this award recognized all the hard work she often does behind the scenes.

1991

Sabrina Moore has been promoted to Manager of Business and Legal Affairs at Comcast Cable in Atlanta, GA.

1993

Peter Beirne, of Santa Clarita, CA, was recently named Lead Trial Counsel for The Paul Law Firm, representing people suffering from mesothelioma. He received his JD from Notre Dame Law School in 2003.

1995

Randy Lowell and his wife, Courtney, welcomed twins, Graham Russell and Annabelle, into their family on March 21, 2019. The twins have a big sister, Natalie Dare. The family resides on Daniel Island, SC.

1996

Gabe Guagliano Baron was selected to be the On-Site Sales Associate for the new Four Seasons, Private Residences at One Dalton Street in Boston. This iconic project has 160 luxury residential homes. One Dalton is now the third tallest building on the Boston skyline and is also the tallest residential building in the city, slated to open in Spring 2019.

1996

Shelley Challoner married William Reinecke on June 23, 2018 in Charleston, SC. She is a Financial Advisor with Charles Schwab in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Jennifer Price Thrift has been named a 2019 Movers & Shakers Educator by the Library Journal for bringing innovation to the classroom.  A Teacher Librarian at Charles Pinckney Elementary School in Mount Pleasant, SC, she was the first educator in Charleston County School District to integrate Breakout EDU escape room kits into student instruction. She and her husband, Wes Thrift '05, reside in Huger, SC, with their two children.

1998

Paige Nance Thomas is Director of Rehabilitation Services at McLeod Health Darlington. She has achieved recertification as a board-certified clinical specialist in neurologic physical therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties of the American Physical Therapy Association. She specializes in comprehensive neurologic physical therapy and is a Wheelchair Seating and Positioning Therapist. She and her husband, Cooper Thomas '96, live in Florence, SC.

1999

Martha Berkesch Lewis created the Complete Sleep Solution, a program that helps health-conscious entrepreneurs overcome their sleep challenges naturally so they can feel and do their very best every day. She lives in Jackson, WY.

Derrick Williams is the 2019 recipient of the Eddie Ganaway Distinguished Alumni Award, named for the first black graduate of the College. The award was announced during the ExCEL (Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership) awards ceremony. Derrick is an attorney in Columbia, SC, and president-elect of the CofC Alumni Association. He also serves on the advisory board for the Honors College.

2000

Hoyt Shay Neal is Director of Legal Investments for Pravati Capital, LLC in Scottsdale, AZ. He and Amber Brewer were married on December 29, 2018.

Anne Clausen Scott, of Lander, WY, is Owner/Partner of Fremont Frameworks.

2002

Tyler Cooper resides on Sullivan's Island and is Chief Financial Officer for the Beach Company.

Lauren Knapp Mosher is a Criminal Intelligence Officer with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office. She was awarded a fellowship with the National Counterterrorism Center, and is currently serving as a member on the Joint Counterterrorism Assessment Team--the 53rd member of the team in the history of the program.

2003

Stephanie Wheeler is an Associate Professor of health policy and management at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. She has been named the Associate Director of UNC Lineberger's new Office of Community Outreach. She will be responsible for gathering community input to assess the needs of North Carolinians related to cancer prevention, early detection, cancer care, and survivorship.

2005

Avery Hall married Greg Beuerman in March 2018, and is the Senior Event Manager for the Downtown Marriott at the Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.

2006

Adam Paul is the CEO for 7 Cinematics, a high-end video production company located in Greensboro, NC. He has received two Emmy Awards for his work in live music and original productions. In his latest project, he produced the world's first livestreamed music event at the Great Pyramids of Giza featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Claire Griffin Porter and Joe Porter work together at Lighthouse Real Estate in Charleston, SC. Mrs. Porter is the Vice President and Mr. Porter is the Broker-in-Charge. The company works with sellers to determine what repairs are needed, and either completes the work or arranges for it to be done.

2009

Lisa Christian was recognized at the College during the 2019 Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Awards as the Outstanding Staff Member of the Year. An employee at the College since 2013, she currently serves as Assistant Director of the REACH Program, providing direct support for seniors in the program.

Jeanmarie Tankersley, of Greenville, SC, was sworn into the Supreme Court Bar in Washington, D.C., in March. Her aunts, Cara Johnston Thompson '85 and Stacey Johnston Reynolds '83, were on hand to watch the ceremony. Ms. Tankersley earned her JD from the University of Georgia, and is an attorney with Clawson and Staubes, LLC. She serves as President of the Upstate CofC Club, and represents CofC Club leaders on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

2011

Kyle Coleman is Service Manager at Southeastern Dock and Door in Ridgeway, SC. He and Amy Sumner were married on October 5, 2013, and live with their three children in Lexington, SC.

Johnny Horsley is a Park Manager for New Mexico State Parks in Columbus, NM.

Audrey Padula married Ryan Carnevale on May 5, 2018, in Charleston, SC. She is a Program Coordinator in the Medical University of South Carolina's Brain Stimulation Lab and Addiction Sciences Department. She received her PhD in neuroscience at MUSC in 2017. The couple resides in Mount Pleasant.

Win Platt is a Brand Strategist for Amazon Echo, developing the positioning, naming, messaging, and packaging for new Echo devices. He lives in Seattle, WA, with his boyfriend, and their Shiba Inu, Boo.

Liz Adams married Robert Williams on October 14, 2017. She has recently become a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-CP) and transferred from home hospice to working at Roper Hospice Cottage, the 20-bed inpatient hospice facility in Mount Pleasant, SC.

2012

Liam Duffy has joined the legal team of Yarborough Applegate as an Attorney in Charleston, SC. He is active in the SC Bar Young Lawyers Division, is a member of the SC House of Delegates, and serves as vice president of the Charleston Lawyers Club.

2014

Colby Billhardt has joined Charleston-based hedge fund, Charleston Capital Management as Vice President of Investor Relations. He is responsible for the development of new investor relationships and the maintenance of current investor relations.

Sheree Grant was recognized at the College during the 2019 Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Awards as the Outstanding Staff Member of the Year. She is the Assistant Manager of the CofC Copy Center, where she has worked since she was a student at the College. She lives in North Charleston, SC.

Lauren Hohler married Jeffrey Kilgallen on June 2, 2018. Mrs. Kilgallen is a First Grade Teacher at Boulder Bluff Elementary School in Goose Creek, SC.

Vaughn Postema was a radio personality for two years at Cumulus Media and Z93 Jamz. She is now the Digital Media Manager for Holy City Hospitality in Charleston, SC.

2015

Melissa Jacobs, of Summerville, SC, was named the inaugural Member-at-Large for the Professional Wrestling Studies Association.

Dan Juergens lives in Middleborough, MA, and is a Project Manager for Wayfair.

2016

Melissa Ender, of Summerville, SC, married Chris Connelly on March 31, 2018. They welcomed their first child, Cecilia Rose, on February 18, 2019. Mrs. Connelly is a Benefits Analyst at Benefitfocus.

Ellie Goelz is the Alumni Relations Coordinator for Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, a law firm in Washington, D.C.

Jenna Marlowe works at PURE Group of Insurance Companies in Charleston, SC. She was recently promoted to Member Advocate.

Selby Gage Rouch received a master's degree in physician assistant studies from Elon University in March 2019.

2017

Sarah Cohen is studying at New York University to obtain a master's degree in history of art and archaeology in May 2019. She plans to continue her studies in the PhD program at Columbia University.

April Curci was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Gamma Real Estate Honorary Society, one of only 700 members nationally. She has joined the brokerage division of Lee & Associates in Mount Pleasant, SC, as an Industrial Associate. In her new position, she will specialize in the logistics and transportation of products coming through the Panama Canal and their dispersal across the US.

Hannah Dominick is the administrative assistant for ACDI/VOCA, an economic development organization in Washington, D.C., that fosters broad-based economic growth, raises living standards, and creates vibrant communities.

Aileena Roberts is an Associate for McLarty Associates in Washington, D.C. She provides administrational and operational support to the McLarty team and supports their food and agriculture practice.

Chris Santos has recently been promoted to Accounting Manager at Middle Street Partners, LLC, in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Phil VanOsdol married Lydia Frady in Greenville, SC, on August 3, 2018. He is an Account Executive at Blackbaud, and the couple lives with their rescue dog, Nash, in Charleston, SC.

2018

Kayla Clary is a Business Applications Analyst for Wells Fargo in Charlotte, NC. She resides in Fort Mill, SC.

Emma Cregg (MPA) and her husband, Jonathan, were featured on the HGTV show House Hunters when they bought their first home in Charleston in August 2018. She is a Community Engagement Specialist with the Charleston County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.

Brianna Mawra is a Fellow for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals, a one-year program to study, volunteer and work in Germany while building and strengthening German-American relations.

Mary Newsom married fellow classmate, Michael McCombs '18, on May 19, 2018. The couple lives in Charleston.

Cesar Murillo has been signed by North Texas Soccer Club, the USL-1 affiliate of FC Dallas, to a one-year contract with options for the 2020 season. He played four years at the College, and was named captain every season. He played a total of 66 games and was selected for the All-CAA Second Team in 2015.

Ariana Pearsall is the Catering Sales and Convention Services Manager for Francis Marion Hotel where she has worked for four years. Ariana lives in Mount Pleasant, SC, with her dog, Isla.

Joe Rutledge is a Realtor for Keller Williams in Denver, CO, and a Design Consultant for The Tile Shop.

Kristina Friend Wright is a Technical Expert for Site Fuel USA and lives in Charleston, SC.
