August 2018

1965

Bonnie duFort Perry of Charleston, SC, has retired after 26 years as Librarian at Blessed Sacrament School. Her career included eight additional years of teaching and eight years in public libraries. She looks forward to traveling with her husband, Bill, and spending time with their three granddaughters. She is a Past President of the College of Charleston Alumni Association.

1969

Pete Pillow of Irmo, SC, has been named 2018 Rotarian of the Year by the Capital Rotary Club of Columbia, SC, in recognition of his dedicated service and loyal devotion to the ideals of Rotary. A retired journalist and public information officer, Pete has been a Rotarian since 1980. He also currently chairs Capital Rotary's public relations committee.

1970

Barbara Barnwell Savoie earned her MEd from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in guidance and counseling, and represented the College of Charleston at the installation of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's president, Dr. E. Joseph Savoie. She was also Queen Victoria XIV during Mardi Gras season in Lafayette a few years ago.

1974

Angie Thomas DeWald of Port Saint Lucie, FL, is an Environmental Supervisor with the Florida Department of Health and will retire in August 2018 after serving 22 years.

Hideaki Kaneko of Virginia Beach, VA, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Old Dominion University. He earned his doctorate from Clemson University.

1975

Joanne Harrison Alexander of Charleston, SC, has recently retired from Charleston County Schools after 40 years as a School Psychologist. During her career, she served as President of the Lowcountry School Psychologists twice, published articles nationally, and wrote a regular column for state practitioners. She was named South Carolina School Psychologist of the Year in 1994. She is married to Aubry Alexander '76.

1977

Leeann Atherton of Austin, TX, is a Music Teacher for the Austin Independent School District and a touring musician. She will be traveling to Spain this fall to perform at the Pueblos Blancos Music Festival. She has previously toured in Spain, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and Norway.

Steve Berry is Chief Operations Officer of Oldcastle APG, the largest hardscapes and masonry concrete manufacturer, and leading dry mix and mulch manufacturer in North America. He has two children and six grandchildren, and lives in North Palm Beach, FL.

Ted Zorn is Head of the Institute for Executive Education at Massey University. He and his wife, Brenda Shute, live in Auckland, New Zealand and have one daughter.

1978

Albertha Frasier Grant is the new City Administrator for Jacksonville, FL. She has more than 32 years of experience working in finance for the federal government. She earned both an MBA and an Executive MPA from Syracuse University.

Deborah Santos Harper of North Charleston, SC, is the Office Manager for Pierce Orthodontics in Mount Pleasant and a Therapeutic Residential Counselor III at New Hope in Summerville. In 2009, she opened Going To The Dogs, LLC, which provides a worry-free alternative to pet kenneling.

1980

Rachel Lyles Rion of Hendersonville, NC, is a Realtor at Keller Williams Realty and earned her MBA from Winthrop University.

1981

Cheryll Novak Woods-Flowers (MS '99) traveled to Washington, D.C. for the 30th Alzheimer's Association Annual Advocacy Forum in June, and testified before Congress to request support for Alzheimer's research. She has been appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina to the Lieutenant Governor's Council on Aging, and by the Governor of South Carolina to the Disabilities Board of Charleston County.

1982

Jeff Turnage has been elected President of the Mississippi Municipal Attorneys Association for 2018-2019. He is the City Attorney for Columbus, MS, and is a Partner at the Mitchell, McNutt & Sams law firm in Columbus. He graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1992, and is a state board certified instructor on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training.

1983

Teresa Bormes Akins is Senior Office Coordinator at Red Ventures, a digital marketing company in Fort Mill, SC.

Lenora Plowden James of Windsor, CT, is Second Vice President for Travelers Insurance, and earned her master's in communication and information management from Bay Path University. She and her husband, Kenneth, have two children.

1991

Peter Cox, former captain of the College's men's soccer team, will have two sons playing soccer for the College. Tomas is a rising sophomore at CofC, and James has committed to the College for this fall. The Cox family lives in Mount Pleasant. SC.

Billy Howard of Summerville, SC, became a Registered Nurse in July 2017, and works at the Medical University of South Carolina in the Total Joint Replacement Unit. He and his wife, Reeves, have two children.

Lauren Porter is a Realtor for AgentOwned Realty in Mount Pleasant, SC. She has an accounting background that spans fifteen years, and has managed rental properties since 1998.

Tracey Todd of Charleston, SC, is the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Middleton Place Foundation. He is the first person outside of the Middleton family to run Middleton Place in more than 300 years.

1992

Bowen Smith of Louisville, KY, is President of Merit Harbor Advisors, a financial advising and insurance firm. He earned his master's in healthcare administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.

1993

Cary Hall of Richmond, VA, is Purchasing Director at Eagle Construction of Virginia, LLC.

1994

Jonathan Brown of Pittsburgh, PA, is Digital Architect at SDLC Partners, a business and technology consulting firm. He earned his master's in human-computer interaction from Carnegie Mellon University.

Allison Burwin of Dover, NH, is Regional Vice President of the Northeast Region for National Healthcare Corporation, covering seven skilled nursing facilities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Dallam Hart of Asheville, NC, is Program Director at Deltec Homes. He and his wife, Deborah, have two children.

Cherisse Jones-Branch (MA '97) of Jonesboro, AR, was named the inaugural James and Wanda Lee Vaughn Professor of History at Arkansas State University in 2017. She is also Director of the ASTATE Digital Press, and published, "Arkansas Women: Their Lives and Times" with the University of Georgia Press this year.

Kelly Crowder Taylor is Principal Interior Designer at Kelly Taylor Interior Design in Providence, RI, and has more than fifteen years of experience in architecture and interior design. She earned her BFA in interior design from the School of Visual Arts, her AAS in interior design at Parsons School of Design, and her MDS in sustanable design from Boston Architectural College.

1995

Hope Ashley Gethers of Hanahan, SC, is a Paralegal for Healthcare Trust of America, Inc. She is earning her master's in jurisprudence with a concentration in financial services,

Kylon Middleton of Charleston, SC, is Senior Pastor of Mount Zion AME Church, and is taking the helm of Charleston's Illumination Project, a national model in the ongoing effort to build trust between police and citizens.

1996

Jeannie Chapman of Spartanburg, SC, has been named Interim Dean of the College of Science and Technology at the University of South Carolina Upstate. She earned her PhD in molecular biology from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Matt Whitfield has joined Carolina One Real Estate as Sales Associate. He and his wife, Cheryl, live in Summerville, SC.

1997

Lauren Walters Potter teaches at NorthPointe Christian School. She and her husband, Nathan, live in Hudsonville, MI.

1999

Michelle Burley Gantt of Pelion, SC, is Supervisor of Patient Access at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia. She and her husband, George, were married in 2015.

Natalie Gamble Johnson of Charleston, SC, is Assistant Dean for Diversity Affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina's College of Medicine. She earned a master's in clinical counseling from Webster University. She and her husband, Allen, have three children and two grandchildren.

James Richman and wife, Kayla, announce the birth of Connor Richman on May 27, 2018. He joins big sister Stella. James is Vice President and Business Service Manager at Morgan Stanley in Charleston, SC.

Amy Zeigler Wilson (MPA '06) of Charleston, SC, is Vice President of Development at One80 Place. She and her husband, Jason, have one son, Paxton, born in 2016.

2000

Alison Vonder Haar Hitner of Greenville, SC, is a Condition Management Nurse at Premise Health. She has been a Registered Nurse in South Carolina since 2005. She and her husband, Chris, have two sons.

Melissa Avrett Meuter is a Broker for Glacier Sotheby's International Realty, and resides with her husband, Jason, and two sons in Whitefish, MT.

Christi Roe Nam and husband, Alex, of Springfield, VA, announce the birth of Hunter Lee Nam on June 5, 2018. He joins big brother Cooper. Christi was recently promoted to Associate Director of Conventions and Meetings at the Ecological Society of America.

Neely Woodson Powell of Charleston, SC, is CEO and founder of Charleston Shoe Company, which now has a total of 15 retail stores across the country. The women's shoes are designed to be comfortable, stylish, and washable.

2001

Joe Bishop of Nashville, TN, is Vice President at Regions Investment Solutions.

Ty Nelson of San Pedro, CA, has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. He earned his MBA from Webster University in 2004.

Ellis Roberts and his wife, Mary, welcomed their third son, John Forsythe Roberts, on May 29, 2018. Jack joins big brothers, James and Bert. Ellis is an attorney and partner in the Charleston law firm, Monoc Roberts, LLC.

Elizabeth Williams and husband, Wesley Funes, announce the birth of son, Eliot Funes-Williams, born October 5, 2017. Elizabeth works as a Competitive Intelligence Analyst for PricewaterhouseCoopers, and was a one-day Jeopardy! champion. The family resides in Fairhope, AL.

2002

Lauren Justesen Bailey of Summerville, SC, has joined Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union as the Director of Business Lending. She brings over fourteen years of retail and commercial banking experience, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Summerville Family YMCA and the Dorchester Economic Development Corporation.

Ryan Eleuteri of Charleston, SC, has been elected to the Cougar Club Board of Directors. He is Owner of Charleston Beverage Company which makes Charleston Mix, the award-winning, locally-produced Bloody Mary mix.

D.J. Irby of Chicago, IL, is Associate Professor, Education Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He and his wife, Shemeka Rogers, have two children.

Kate Cerretani O'Donnell of Loveland, OH, is the Owner and Event Consultant for KCO Events. She and her husband, Brian, have two children.

Anne Stevens (MEd '04) of Mount Pleasant, SC, taught for the last thirteen years in the school system. She has now launched a new business called "The Other Mother Goose", offering services in the Low Country where she shares fairy tales, ryhmes and crafts which foster imagination in young children.

2003

Missy Gossett of Atlanta, GA, is Office Manager for the dental practice of Elizabeth D. Caughey, DDS.

Dianne Turgeon Richardson of Orlando, FL, was recently awarded Zeta Tau Alpha's Honor Ring at the recent National Convention in Orlando, FL. The Honor Ring is the highest individual honor bestowed by the Fraternity and is awarded after many years of sustained service at the local and national levels. She has also published poetry and pop culture thinkpieces online this year at Glass: Poets Resist, Moonchild Magazine, and Sinkhole Magazine.

2004

Keith Wiggans has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of the men's soccer program at the College of Charleston. He has been an assistant coach with the team for the past nine years.

2005

Kelly Flaherty of Ewing, NJ, is a Collections Cataloger for Princeton University Art Museum. She earned a master's in history of art and design from Pratt Institute, as well as a master's in library and information science.

Eric Marom and Kelsey Powell Marom '06 announce the birth of daughter, Noa Lila Marom, on November 6, 2017. The Marom family lives in Columbia, SC where Eric is an internist with Midlands Internal Medicine.

Brandon Norwood and Jessica Forman Norwood '07 announce the birth of daughter, Aston Gray Norwood, on March 30, 2018. The family lives in Raleigh, NC, where Brandon is a Financial Advisor and Registered Representative with Consolidated Planning, Inc., and Jessica is an Account Representative with Dude Solutions.

2006

Kelly Forward is General Manager for King Law Offices in Rutherfordton, NC.

Ashley Harmon served as a veterinarian for the 2018 Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska, and was stationed in Takotna, Finger Lakes, and McGrath, Alaska. She earned her DVM from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011, and is a Veterinarian at Chester Valley Veterinary Hospital. She and her husband, Matthew McMillan, live in Anchorage, AK.

Kelsey Keith of Brooklyn, NY, is Editor-in-Chief of Curbed at Vox Media, Inc.

Chris O'Neal (M.S.) has been elected to the Cougar Club Board of Directors. He is a CPA and Managing Partner at Moody & O'Neal CPAs LLC in Mount Pleasant. SC.

2007

Becca Rockholt Gentry (MS) of Inman, SC, is a Science Teacher for the Spartanburg District 7 School District. She and her husband, Mark, have one daughter, Cathryn.

Kate Guthrie Jackson is Founder of Jackson Public Relations and Events Management. She, her husband, Andrew, and daughter, Pearl, live in Ridgefield, CT.

2008

Melissa Krueger Camacho earned her MAT in middle level social studies from Converse College, and is a Social Studies Teacher for Greenville County Schools. She resides in Greer, SC, with husband, Chris, and their two children, Parker and Louisa.

Carina Herrera Dibenedetto is Senior Administrative Assistant at Nektar Therapeutics in San Francisco, CA, where she supports several high-level executives at the biopharmaceutical company.

Katie Moore of Charlotte, NC, married Art Howson on May 5, 2018. She is Associate Creative Director at Wray Ward.

Sam Spence of North Charleston, SC, has been promoted to Editor of Charleston City Paper.

Elizabeth Stone Tutterow and husband, Josh, announce the birth of son, Julian Nelson Tutterow, on May 24, 2018. Elizabeth is a Speech Language Pathologist for Dorchester School District II and earned her master's in speech language pathology from South Carolina State University. The family resides in Charleston, SC.

2009

Ivey Edinger Christmas and Stephen Christmas '07 announce the birth of their daughter, Bridget, on June 6, 2017. She joins big brother, Eli. The Christmas family lives in Goose Creek, SC.

Britt Foster and Randy Buchanan '10 were married May 19, 2018. Britt is Director, Customer Success at Questis, Inc., and earned her MBA from The Citadel in 2014. Randy is an Implementation Consultant at Benefitfocus. The couple lives in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Stephanie Kozersky Lee and her husband, Justin, announce the birth of their daughter, Olivia Rose, on June 12, 2018. Stephanie is the Annual Giving Manager for Charleston Parks Conservancy.

2010

Gibbon Miler Ashley and her husband, Bryan, welcomed their first child, Bryan Ellis Ashley Jr. on July 20, 2018. Ellis and his parents live in Chapel Hill, NC.

Kristin Hopkins Rusboldt (MA) is Assistant Athletics Director of Academics and Student Development at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

2011

Jessica Roland Breen of Lexington, KY, is Director of Education, Outreach, and Communication for the Bluegrass Land Conservancy.

Jessica Hunter received a full tuition Dean's Scholarship to attend Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She will start her second year of law school in August 2018.

Mia Hudson Mauldin and Ethan Mauldin '12 announce the birth of daughter, Fiona Mey Mauldin, on March 2, 2018. She joins brothers, Atticus and Frederick. Ethan received his master's in physician assistant studies from MUSC and is an Emergency Department Physician Assistant for TeamHealth in Charleston.

Matthew Sanders is a Middle School Math Teacher at Healthwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia, SC.

2012

Andrea Jackson married Mathew Brady on October 1, 2016. She is Office Manager at Total Beverage Solution, and resides in Hanahan, SC.

Clara Brown of Providence, RI, is a Podcast Booking Agent for Interview Connections, the largest and most successful guest booking agency for podcasters and guest experts in the United States.

Allie Calder of Raleigh, NC, is Marketing Manager, Neurotoxin at Merz North America. She holds two master's degrees and is currently pursuing her MBA from North Carolina State University.

Crystal Frost was promoted to Legal Performance Manager at InvestiNet in Greenville, SC. She married Jonathan Whitaker in October 2017 and resides in Travelers Rest, SC.

Tyler Gilliam of Charleston, SC, has joined Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, PA as Tax Attorney in the firm's Charleston office. He earned his LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and his JD from Charleston School of Law.

Javier Gomez-Lavin is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the philosophy department at the University of Pennsylvania, and successfully defended his philosophy dissertation, "The Fragmented Mind," at the City University of New York Graduate Center in May 2018. His doctoral degree will be conferred in September.

Betsy La Force of Charleston, SC, is the Communities and Transportation Project Manager for the nonprofit, Coastal Conservation League. She helps shape policy aimed at encouraging alternative transportation solutions and thoughtful residential development, as well as mitigating runaway sprawl.

Marla Loftus (MA) of Isle of Palms, SC, is Senior Retail Marketing Manager for Le Creuset of America, headquartered in Charleston.

Andrew Strickland of Mount Pleasant, SC, has recently co-founded Code/+/Trust, a firm focused in sourcing software development teams to companies. He also is co-founder and managing partner at Teamphoria, which helps organizations measure engagement, organizational cultures, and performance.

Elyse Chubb Welch has been elected to the Cougar Club Board of Directors. She is Senior Associate with Retail Services for Lee & Associates Commercial Real Estate Services in Charleston, and a former volleyball player for the College.

Lauren Hetzel and Blake Wyatt were married on June 9, 2018 at The Citadel Summerall Chapel. Lauren is a Client Manager for Change Healthcare in Charleston, SC.

2013

Natalie Byrom of Greenville, SC, has returned from a nine-month tour in Afghanistan as an AH-64D, Apache Helicopter Pilot with the South Carolina Army National Guard. While deployed, she was promoted to Company Command during combat, becoming the first female line company commander in the battalion, and was awarded the Air Medal with "C" device, and the Combat Action Badge.

Sarah Scudder Davis of Albany, CA, is an Ensign in the United States Coast Guard, based out of San Francisco, CA.

Martin Erbele (MPA) has been elected Chair of the College of Charleston Graduate School Advisory Board. He is a Mitigation Planner with Michael Baker International in Atlanta, GA.

Heather Henderson of Daniel Island, SC, is Operations Manager at Carolina Girls in Charleston, SC.

Casey Taylor and Jason Minkel united in marriage on June 23, 2018 in Cayce, SC. Casey is a Middle School Math Teacher with Richland School District Two in Columbia, SC.

2014

Betsey Poore (MA) married Paul Geier on October 13, 2017 in Mount Pleasant, SC. She is Marketing Manager for Charleston Magazine, and earned her undergraduate degree in communication and journalism from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Lauren Wright of McKinney, TX, is Compliance Associate at Blue River Partners, and recently earned her law degree from Texas A&M University. She was the recipient of the 2017 Sandra Anderson Scholarship from the Energy Bar Section of the Dallas Bar Association and the recipient of the Oil, Gas & Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas 2017 Scholarship.

2015

Ali Blumenthal is Assistant Sailing Coach for Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. She is completing her MAT in liberal studies, creative writing from Dartmouth.

Courtney Everton has been promoted to Assistant Property Manager at Belle Hall Apartments in Mount Pleasant, SC.

2016

Canyon Barry is currently playing basketball on the Hunan Yongsheng team in China, a new team in the country's second-tier National Basketball League. He is also pursuing a master's degree in nuclear engineering at the University of Florida.

Hannah Gosney is living in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where she teaches English. She caught the travel bug at the College and has been travelling around the world, including trips to Paris, Rome, Morocco, and Vienna.

Kay Ladson of North Charleston, SC, is a Regulatory Program Assistant for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. She has one daughter, Heaven Ellis.

Kelby Ledford of Cambridge, MA, has been promoted to Inbound Agency Strategist (Channel Consultant) at HubSpot.

2017

April Curci of Mount Pleasant, SC, has joined Lee and Associates Charleston as Office Coordinator.

Eli Dent of Mount Pleasant, SC, is Founder and Creator of Sidekik, a new and improved hackey sack product which allows users of all ages to get their feet moving. The Sidekik has feathers which aid in slowing down the ball, allowing for more touches and more fun.

Bijan Ghom (MBA) of North Charleston, SC, has joined Rosen Hagood as an Associate Attorney. He practices business and commercial litigation, business and corporate law, employment and labor law, and construction law and litigation. He received his JD from Charleston School of Law.

Grace Anna Hair of Inman, SC, is a Special Education Teacher for Spartanburg School District 7.

Chandler Massengale is a Senior Line Applied Behavioral Analyst at Agapi Behavioral Consultants in Greenville, SC.

Chris Santos is Development Accountant and Project Manager at Middle Street Partners, LLC in Charleston, SC.

Lauren Tomes of Simpsonville, SC, is a Special Education Aide for Greenville County Schools. She is earning her MAT from Liberty University and expects to graduate in May 2019.

Matt Whipple (MBA) of Charleston, SC, has joined Levy Financial Group as Director of Participant Services. He has more than 17 years of experience in the financial services industry and is a Certified Financial Planner.

2018

Aimee Faucette of Mount Pleasant, SC, has joined Island Realty as Concierge and Guest Experience Coordinator.

Scott Harvin has joined The Lead PR as a Junior Account Executive in New York City.
