June 2019

1972

Lydia Pruitt Davidson has been elected to the CofC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She is Senior Partner at a law firm, Krawcheck & Davidson, LLC, in Charleston, SC.

1973

David Jaffee received the 2019 Mr. Pi Kappa Phi award, the highest honor bestowed by the fraternity, in recognition of his many years of service to Pi Kappa Phi. A member of the Alpha Chapter at the College, he began serving the fraternity on a national level in 1979. In 1992, he was awarded the Merit Citation for his outstanding contributions to the fraternity. He lives in Charleston with his wife, Dolly Santos Jaffee '87.

1974

Carol Burk graduated from Theological Southern Seminary in 1980 with a MA in religion. In October 1981, she was consecrated as a Deaconess and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. For the last 39 years, she has served in congregations, on the Bishop's staff, as an editor for Augsburg Fortress Publishers, and as an associate director for evangelism and Christian education. She retired in 2017 and lives in Charleston, SC.

1975

Gus Gustafson has been elected to serve on the CofC Foundation Board of Directors. The Founder of Great Underwriting Solutions, he is a past recipient of the Alumni Award of Honor, past chair of the Foundation Board, and past president of the Alumni Association. He and his wife, Trisha Sullivan Gustafson '72, live in Charleston, SC.

1978

Robbie Freeman has been elected to serve on the CofC Foundation Board of Directors. He is a certified Marine Manager and is the Regional Manager for Safe Harbor Marinas in Charleston. He also serves on the Graduate School Advisory Board.

Larry Gale is a Photographer whose black and white photograph of Old Bethel AME Church in McClellanville, SC, was recently published in the 2019 edition of Humanitas, the Library Journal of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC, and recently retired from MUSC Information Solutions where he worked as a Data Architect.

1980

Dick Andrzejczyk is the Owner of Finders Keepers, a gift shop in historic downtown Beaufort, SC, that sells souvenirs, jewelry, and collectibles. In operation for 40 years, the shop started as a couple of tables at the Farmers Market in Waterfront Park.

Jeannie McLaughlin-Mills, of James Island, SC, is a substitute teacher at Bishop England High School. She and her husband, Vince, have three children, Ryan Mills '16, Nicholas Mills '17, and Brittany Mills.

1981

Mark Buono, of Charleston, SC, has been elected to the College of Charleston Foundation Board of Directors. He is a Managing Director for Global Atlantic Financial Group Limited. He and his wife, Judy, established the Buono Colonial Scholarship at the College, and also provide scholarships for students participating in the Teach Local Academy, through the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance.

1983

Edward Duffy has been elected to the CofC Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is a Radiation Oncologist practicing at the Tuomey Cancer Treatment Center, and a Shareholder at Palmetto Radiation Oncology in Sumter, SC. He and his wife, Whitney, have four children.

Steve Smith has been elected to the CofC Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is the Managing Director of CBRE's South Carolina's office. He and his wife, Deborah, live in Greenville, SC.

1989

Cindy McDougal Winston is a Science Teacher at Agave Middle and High School in Tucson, AZ. She was recognized on the opening day of the Arizona State Legislature by a former student, State Representative Daniel Hernandez, as the "Campus Teacher of the Year" for the second year in a row.

1990

Danette Fralix McAlhaney celebrated the opening of her new family practice office in Bamberg, SC, in June. She earned an MD from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1994, and has served the Bamberg area since 1997. The practice currently has five providers who specialize in primary care, children's and adolescent health, women's health, and preventative care. Dr. McAlhaney lives with her husband, Danny, in Branchville, SC.

1992

Johnnie Baxley has been elected to serve on the CofC Foundation Board of Directors. He is a Founding Partner and Attorney with Willson Jones Carter & Baxley, specializing in workers' compensation. He is a past recipient, along with his wife, Michelle, of the Alumni Award of Honor from the CofC Alumni Association. They are also national co-chairs of the College's Parent Advisory Council.

1993

Susan West Story was named the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient by the CofC Honors College. Since graduating from the College, she has lived across the globe and worked for a variety of U.S. embassies, government entities, and private firms in areas ranging from financial management to procurement to contract administration. She and her husband, Jimmy, were living with their son in Caracas, Venezuela, until recent political upheaval required they move out of the country. They are currently awaiting their next destination.

1994

Paul Day is a Vice President at The Bulleit Group, a technology-focused public relations agency in San Francisco, CA. The agency was just awarded the 2019 Tech PR Agency of the Year by the Holmes Report.

1995

Michelle Asha Cooper was recently elected to the CofC Foundation Board of Directors. She is President of the Institute for Higher Education Policy in Washington, D.C., and is a past recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Award from the CofC Alumni Association. She received a master's degree from Cornell University and a PhD from the University of Maryland.

1996

Tom Kelly, of Florence, SC, is a Hospital Sales Representative for Palmetto Biologics, LLC.

1999

Nancy Bradham Bright is the IT Project Manager at the College. She and her family live on Johns Island.

Catherine Sandlin Dority has been elected to serve on the CofC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She is the Director of Marketing for Explore Charleston, also known as the Charleston Area Convention and Business Bureau. She and her husband, Roland Dority '91, live in Charleston with their daughter, Simmons.

2000

Angela Kouters has been named South Carolina State Director for U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar's presidential campaign. She began her career working for the late U.S. Senator Fritz Hollings, followed by work for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She has been Chief of Staff for three U.S. House members and Director of Legislative affairs for two federal agencies in the Obama administration. She lives in Charleston, SC.

2001

Elizabeth Davis Morton is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She owns Flourish Counseling & Consulting in Winchester, KY, providing individual counseling and group work.

Rivers Pearce has joined Lowcountry Digital as their Strategic Advisor and Consultant in Charleston, SC.

2002

Ryan Velasco has joined MWWPR's Washington, D.C. office as Vice President of Corporate Communications and Issues and Crisis. He specializes in leading disaster field teams, including community outreach and recovery operations. He served on the White House Council on Environmental Quality as a Deputy Associate Director during the Obama administration.

2003

Natasha Cobb Chatman recently celebrated her fourth year as Chief Operations Officer of Fetter Health Care Network in Charleston, SC.

Angharad Chester-Jones has joined the public relations and communications team at the American Academy of Neurology in Minneapolis and was recently accepted into the master's in strategic communications program at the University of Minnesota. She also serves on the board of directors as the head of marketing for Fashion Group International of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Inc., and is a member of the event committee for the American Cancer Society MSP chapter.

Kyle Huckabee is the Ticket Operations Manager for the South Carolina Stingrays, the East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals and American Hockey League's Hershey Bears. He lives in Summerville with his wife, Marcy, and their son, Aaron.

Dianne Turgeon Richardson is a Technical and Proposal Writer for Alaka'ina Foundation Family of Companies in Orlando, FL. She joined the Creative Writing Program Advisory Council at Full Sail University and meets periodically to review the bachelor's and master's degree curricula and make recommendations. She was named the inaugural Poet-in-Residence at First United Methodist Church of Orlando, where she will be facilitating the use of poetry and other literary arts as a way of expressing and exploring spirituality. She and her husband, Kit, have two children, Elizabeth and Benjamin.

Stephanie Wheeler and Scotty Belknap '01 welcomed twins, Miles Jameson and Jules Avery, on May 11. The couple has two other children, Brooks and Reese, and lives in Chapel Hill, NC.

2005

Ryan Stephenson was promoted to Corporate Business Development Team Leader for Allen Lund Company (ALC) in Charleston, SC. He has been with ALC since 2007, starting as a Transportation Broker, and has spent the past 10 years in sales.

2006

Kelsey Keith married Eli Rosenberg on April 26, 2019, in New York City. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Curbed, a digital publication about cities, homes, and architecture, based in New York. She studied art history at the Paris-Sorbonne University.

2007

Lauren Whiteside Mann has been promoted to Senior Development Officer for the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance at the College. She will cover SC and key areas of NC, including the Research Triangle.

Mercedes Pinckney, of Lexington, SC, has been elected to serve on the CofC Alumni Association Board of Directors. She earned a JD from North Carolina Central University Law School and a master's of law from St. Thomas University School of Law. She is the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer for South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC.

Laura Pustarfi, of Kensington, CA, received her PhD in Philosophy and Religion from the California Institute of Integral Studies in May.

2008

Andrew Durham married Tracy Maria Williams, on May 22, 2019, in Columbus, GA. The couple met while interning at the Manhattan district attorney's office. He received a master's degree in Latin American and Caribbean studies from New York University and graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University School of Law. He is an Assistant District Attorney at the Brooklyn district attorney's office.

Kenny Gardner is a member of the Butler Snow, LLP litigation department and practices within the tort, transportation, and specialized litigation group. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the James L. Petigru American Inn of Court. He received a JD from the Charleston School of Law.

Craig Lawson was promoted to Manager of Customer Support at Blackbaud in April. Craig resides on Johns Island, SC.

Robert Mollohan has joined Bloom Parham, LLP in Atlanta as an Associate. He earned his JD from Georgia State University's College of Law, and will focus on civil litigation, particularly in the areas of torts, civil rights, and other statutory and constitutional claims.

Ryan Morris and his wife, Rachel, welcomed their son, Henry McKeegan, into the family on April 16, 2019. Ryan is a Corporate Sales Recruiter at Blackbaud. The family lives in Charleston.

Brady Quirk-Garvan has been named to the board of directors of The Charleston Forum, a community project that strives to provide a dialogue on race that moves the conversation forward. He formerly served as the chairman of the Charleston Democratic Party, and currently serves on the board of directors for the CofC Alumni Association, The Palmetto Project, and Emerge SC.

Annalise Rahman-Filipiak earned her PhD in clinical neuropsychology from Wayne State University in 2016, and is a Clinical Neuropsychologist at the University of Michigan's Department of Psychiatry. She was awarded a two-year NIA/NIH-funded R03 grant to study biomarker-based Alzheimer's disease risk disclosure in diverse populations. She and her husband, Mike, live in Redford, MI.

Maggie Trela is the Communications and Marketing Officer for the University of South Florida Libraries in Tampa, FL. In her free time, she works for On Our Moon as a writer and editor.

2009

Julia Downs is the Director of Revenue Management for the Hilton Houston Post Oak in Houston, TX.

Matt Passarello is the Evening Manager for the Francis Marion Hotel in downtown Charleston, SC.

Andrea Horwath White (MAT '13) completed her first year as the Musical Theater and General Music Director at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, SC. Her husband, Jonathan White '16, is an artist-in-residence at Opera Carolina in Charlotte, NC.

2010

Lawson Ballard and his wife, Kelli, welcomed their son, Charlie, into their family on July 2, 2018. Lawson is a Financial Advisor for Ballard Wealth Advisory of Raymond James in Greenville, SC.

Annie DuPre-Reynolds became a certified Field Guide in South Africa in March 2019. Annie is also a Level 2 Tracker as part of a small community of females involved in the animal tracking industry in southern Africa. She married Ricky Reynolds in 2017, and they reside in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Jordan Payne Strobeck, of Boston, is a Managing Director at Beautycounter, a direct retail brand. She is celebrating the one-year anniversary of opening Jordan Strobeck Wellness, a company created to help clients live a healthier life rooted in purpose and connection.

2011

Andrew Brennan received his MBA from the George Washington University School of Business in May. He is a Business Development Manager with the law firm McGuireWoods LLP in Washington, D.C.

Chloe Kingery and Finnan Connick were married on March 23, 2019, in New Orleans, LA. Chloe earned an MS in clinical mental health counseling from Loyola University in 2015 and now works as a Mental Health Clinician for the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program in Columbia, SC.

Don Squires is the Director of Development and Marketing at East Cooper Community Outreach in Mount Pleasant, SC. Don and his wife, Molly Morse Squires '14, live in Charleston, SC.

Elise Maggioncalda married Ross Taylor, in Charleston on June 14, 2014. Since then, she earned an MS in Biomedical Science and an MD from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and is scheduled to complete UNC-Chapel Hill's Radiology program in 2023.

2012

Sarah Miller and Greg Gelber were married in Greece on August 8, 2018. The couple had a three-day celebration and vow renewal in Charleston with close friends and family in October. Sarah opened Miller Gallery on East Bay Street in downtown Charleston two years ago, and is hosting a Second Birthday Exhibit opening on June 7, 2019.

Michelle Miller is the Executive Assistant to the Honorable Mike Rogers at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress in Washington, D.C.

2013

Thomas Holliday graduated from Charlotte School of Law in 2017. He is a Financial Crimes Consultant for Wells Fargo in Charlotte, NC.

AJ Johnson is the Marketing Coordinator for Sustainable Lakewood, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to reshaping the greater Atlanta area neighborhoods into thriving, green communities through sustainable practices.

Holly Cruse and Sam McGlothin were married on May 5, 2019. She is a Paralegal for the law firm, Sherpy & Jones, in Columbia, SC.

Heather Pate is the Regional Branch Manager for Southern Elevator Company in West Columbia, SC.

Jennifer Greenway Schumacher completed her Birth Doula training in July 2018, and is working toward certification through DONA International. She and her husband, Peter, live in Charleston, SC.

2014

Joe Busch received his MS in accounting from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2018. He was recently promoted to Senior Associate Broker for AmWINS Group in Dallas, TX.

Kate Butler graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, with a master's in fine arts and a MS in art history. She has been awarded residencies at Odyssey Clayworks and Anderson Ranch Art Center.

Ash Cafasso received an MPH from Tulane University in 2015, and is working as a Project Lead for New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

Allison Gleditsch married Cody Harrell on June 11, 2016. She earned a JD from Emory University School of Law in 2017, and is now an Associate Attorney for Moore & Van Allen, PLLC in Charlotte, NC.

Phoebe Doty Richards received an MA in Professional Writing from Old Dominion University in May. She and her husband, Derek, live in Norfolk, VA.

Amanda Roscoe received a Fulbright grant to teach English in Malaysia for the 2020 school year. She previously worked as an English language assistant for middle schools in Lyon, France. While a student at the College, she was a member of the International Studies Honor Society and the International Studies Club.

2015

Kayla Bogad is the Associate Director of Development at the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary in North Carolina.

Erin Murphy is the Director of Client Services for Morning Consult in Washington, D.C., a global technology company for survey research.

Tori Williams and Albert Nardone '14 were married on March 23, 2019. Tori is the Digital Content Manager at Lou Hammond Group in Charleston, SC.

Danielle Stout is a Fixed Assets Accountant for Hanger, Inc. in Austin, TX.

Millie Thomas earned a PharmD from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in May. She participated in an outreach trip to Uganda with OneWorld Health in the spring, working at Masindi Kitara Medical Center to provide pharmacy-focused continuing medical education presentations and drug dosing protocol for the hospital. She has matched for a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA.

Chelsea Wright is the Assistant General Manager for the Marriott International in West Palm Beach, FL.

2016

Meredith Cox lives in Charlotte, NC, with her dog, Tucker. She is the Account Sales Manager for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

Sarah Dudley will be starting her second year at the University of Georgia School of Law in the fall. She is working as a Legal Intern for The Home Depot in Atlanta, GA.

Laurel Fay was recently promoted to Marketing Specialist at Shepley Bulfinch in Boston, MA.

Emma Hollister has been promoted to Consultant Engagement Manager at TEKsystems in Charlotte, NC. She is responsible for the retention, redeployment and engagement of consultants across Charlotte.

Grant Maddox, of Charleston, SC, has recently been promoted to Wealth Management Advisor at Detterbeck Wealth Management. 

Ciara O'Brien is a Press Office Administrative Assistant at the Royal Horticultural Society in London.

Leo Pate and Kayla Rose Pate live in Auburn, WA. Leo is the Director of Assessments for Rhino Security Labs and recently completed a tour of service with the U.S. Army Cyber Command as a Cyber Operations Officer.

Lexi Schuck received a BS in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing in May.

Alyssa Dudley married Jon Steel on May 5 at Charlyn Farms in Marietta, SC. She previously interned with the Institutional Advancement Team at the College as a student and has now re-joined the team as Assistant Director, Annual Leadership Gifts in the Annual Giving Office.

Stacey Tomlinson won her third straight Ladies City Amateur tournament at the Municipal Golf Course in Charleston. She was on the golf team at CofC.

Jessie Woodruff has relocated from Charlotte, NC, to Denver, CO, and continues to work for AECOM as a Geologist. In her free time, Jessie loves to cycle and hike throughout the country.

2017

Steven Barranca is the Special Assistant to the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Kylie Bliss has been promoted to Account Manager at Doctible in San Diego, CA.

Lucas Freeman is a graduate student at the University of Virginia. He was recently named a Jefferson Fellow by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation. These fellowships are designed to identify PhD and MBA candidates who demonstrate outstanding achievement and the highest promise as scholars, teachers, public servants, and business leaders.

Sammi Maziejka, of Durham, NC, is Assistant Athletic Director of Development at Meredith College in Raleigh.

Franny Miller (MBA '18) has opened Blüm Coffee on Devine Street in Columbia, SC. Blüm is a botanical-minded, modern coffee shop where the signature syrups are made from herbs grown on site. The shop sources its beans from Charleston-based Counter Culture Coffee and its baked goods from Ally & Eloise Bakeshop of Columbia.

Grace Nicoll is the Marketing Manager for Ronald McDonald House Charities in Charleston, SC.

Megan Shea is the Catering Sales Manager at the historic Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston.

Emily Torchiana is the Founder and President of Lost Got Found, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the negative stigma surrounding mental health. The organization educates and informs students about mental illness and suicide prevention through their tailored curriculum, and recently formed a partnership with Mental Health America, hosting its 2nd annual benefit in May. She lives in Charleston, but travels the country speaking at schools.

2018

Erica Carra will be attending Georgetown Law in Washington, D.C., beginning in Fall 2019.

Abigail Ogdenis an E-Commerce Sales Operations Coordinator and Personal Shopping Assistant at Oscar de la Renta in New York City.

Samantha Pairet is the Head Coach of the College's cheerleading team along with being a Program Assistant at the Medical University of South Carolina. Samantha resides in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Crystina Perez is a Steward for Linbald Expeditions in Seattle, WA.

Ainsley Stollar works for Madewell in Charleston, SC, as a Visual Merchandising Manager and Assistant Manager. She is also a Writing and Editorial Intern for Few Editorial & Creative Suite.

Brooke Swetenburg is the Community Relations Manager for the Charleston RiverDogs.

2019

Davis Bratton is a Recruiter for EPM Scientific in New York City.

Elizabeth Cochran has accepted a job as a Digital Performance Specialist with Lewis Media Partners in Richmond, VA.

Paige Davis is pursuing a master's degree in Health, Exercise, and Sport Science from The Citadel Graduate College in Charleston.

Isabel Findeisen is a Sales Office Administrative Coordinator for Patrick Properties Hospitality Group in Charleston, SC.

Grace Hartley joined the GVLtoday team in Greenville, SC, as a Multimedia Journalist.

Hayley Jowers received the Exceptional Practitioner Award from the College's Department of Health and Human Performance in May.

Georgia Lahr became the Campus Representative Director of Lost Got Found in March. Founded by fellow alumna, Emily Torchiana '17, the organization is a network for college-aged students dealing with mental health challenges to connect with and educate one another.

Julia Prince is starting a three-year program at MUSC to obtain her master's in healthcare administration. She is also working as a Unit Secretary in the cardiovascular unit at Roper St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

Madeline Reagor is working for WCBD News 2 in Mount Pleasant, SC, as a Digital Multimedia Journalist.
