March 2018

1951

Stacy Latto Poydasheff has been honored for her extensive work in helping families and soldiers in the infantry with The Order of Sparta. She received the Order of Saint Joan D'Arc Medallion and was awarded the Saint Michael the Archangel Award for her community outreach. Mrs. Poydasheff is a Gracious Lady of Georgia, as well as a Girl Scouts Lady of Distinction. She and her husband, Bob Poydasheff, have been married 64 years and live in Columbus, GA.

1953

Jack Breibart of San Francisco competed in January at the United States Tennis Association's national tennis tournament in Surprise, AZ, in the 65+ 3.0 level. He is a retired News Editor at the San Francisco Chronicle.

1964

Linda Sutker Cope received her Yoga Therapist Certification from the International Association of Yoga Therapists. She and her husband, John, reside in Moorestown, NJ.

1972

Skip Baker of Temecula, CA, manages marketing and business development at Generation Contracting and Emergency Services, Inc., located in Poway, CA. He received the San Diego County Apartment Association President's Award in 2014, and is on the Poway Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Senior Center Board of Directors, and State Senator Joel Anderson's Small Business Advisory Council.

1978

Larry Gale of Mount Pleasant, SC, was appointed by the Charleston County Council to the Charleston County Library Board in January 2018. Mr. Gale is also an award-winning photographer and plays percussion for the North Charleston Pops.

1979

Elizabeth Colbert-Busch of Mount Pleasant, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is director of business development for the Clemson University Restoration Institute in North Charleston, and serves on the College of Charleston Alumni Board of Directors.

1980

Shanda Scott Johnson of Goose Creek, SC, received the prestigious South Carolina Order of the Silver Crescent Award, signed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster in December. The award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the life and well-being of South Carolina and its people. Mrs. Johnson is the Atlantic STEM outreach director for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC). Since 2009, the program has grown to reach more than 55,000 students in the tri-county area, increasing their technical opportunities.

Cathy Hill Mahon of Summerville, SC, has been appointed Vice President of Development at the College of Charleston.

1981

Deborah Shogry Blalock of Charleston, SC, is Executive Director at the Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center, and will serve as a panelist at the symposium titled, Charleston's Response to the Emmanuel AME Nine Shooting: A Concerted Effort to Improve Mental Health, on March 7 in Charleston, SC.

Carol Brittsan of Mount Pleasant, SC, has a master's degree in physician assistant studies, and is a Certified Wound Specialist having passed the national board examination through the American Board of Wound Management.

Behren Kittrell of Charleston, SC, is owner and Broker-in-Charge at Charleston Flat Fee Real Estate.

1984

Sam Ross is co-founder of the newly-opened Windmill Arts Center in Atlanta, GA. The center houses two state-of-the-art facilities dedicated to fostering performance and visual arts.

John Tiller of Mount Pleasant, SC, has been named to South Carolina Lawyers Weekly's 2018 Leadership in Law Honoree list. He is a trial lawyer and mediator for Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd's Insurance Defense Practice Group.

Matt Wellslager is the Director at South Carolina Geodetic Survey. He earned his master's in geography from the University of South Carolina in 2001, and lives in Columbia, SC, with his wife, Debbie.

1985

Tammy Carroll Coghill of Charleston, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is also on the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors and is Manager of Local Government and Economic Development for SCANA in Charleston.

1986

Alston Flynn Lippert of Columbia, SC, is Associate Minister of Nurture and Discipleship Development at the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC. Ms. Flynn is earning her M.Div. from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and expects to graduate in 2020.

Chappy McKay of Charleston, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is Vice President and Director of Development at Trident Construction.

1987

Bradley Smith of Greenville, SC, is an Agent and Land Broker at Cross Creek Realty, LLC, located in Travelers Rest, SC.

1988

John Pearson is the men's basketball Coach at Porter-Gaud in Charleston, SC. He has led the team to back-to-back state championships in the past three years. This year, the team captured Porter-Gaud's first Roundball championship in the event's 25-year history and the Lowcountry's first title in the tournament since 2013.

1989

Tav Swarat was appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to the College of Charleston Board of Trustees on February 12, 2018. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina, and lives in Columbia, SC. He has a statewide law practice focused on civil litigation and criminal defense. He and his wife, Eleanor, have three children.

Everne Williams (M.Ed) of Charleston, SC, will retire this year after teaching in the Charleston County School District for 38 years. She taught at Murray-LaSaine Elementary School for 33 years.

1990

Wendy Bobseine Parker is a Nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina. She has been both therapeutic assistant of the year and nurse of the year for the department of psychiatry.

1991

Doug Singleton of Charlotte, NC, is Executive Director at Charlotte Ballet, a world class repertory ballet ensemble. Mr. Singleton has been with Charlotte Ballet since 2005.

1992

Ernest Blevins of Charleston, WV, has been named a National Research Associate for the Living New Deal, a volunteer project to document the New Deal. He focuses on the states of West Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina, and will be part of the 2018 class of West Virginia History Heroes for his efforts. He is also structural historian for review and compliance for the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office.

1993

Julia Martin of Charleston, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is CFO of Advanced Technology International, a research and development contracting company located in Summerville, SC.

Will Sherrod is a Realtor and Broker with the commercial real estate firm, Lee & Associates Charleston. He was named one of the top performers of 2017. Mr. Sherrod resides in Mount Pleasant, SC, and also serves on the College's Cougar Club Board.

1994

Kim Fox of Mount Lebanon, PA, is an artist working with vintage tins and salvaged wood which she patchworks in a way that resembles quilting. She is also an art Teacher in regional schools, designer, and illustrator.

Bill Ray of O'Fallon, IL, was promoted from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel in the United States Air Force on November 1, 2016. Col. Ray was selected to command the 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Group at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan starting on June 10, 2018.

1995

Don Brown and Buffy Murtland Brown live in Winnabow, NC with their daughter, Lacie. Don is the Campus Pastor at Port City Community Church in Leland, NC. He earned his M.Div. from the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1998.

Pillaure Bell Cleary is Vice President and System Administrator at Fidelity National Title Insurance Company in Columbia, SC.

Elizabeth McCune is Chief Growth Officer, Global at GroupM in New York City, the world's largest media investment group. Ms. McCune earned her MBA from the University of Georgia in 2005, and resides in Huntington Station, NY.

Stephanie Leonard Yarbrough of Mount Pleasant, SC, is a selected speaker for the South Carolina Biotechnology Industry Organization's South Carolina Life Sciences Boot Camp on March 14, in Columbia, SC. She will lecture on mergers and acquisitions in a presentation titled, "M&A 101 in the Life Sciences Space". She is a partner in the Charleston office of Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, LLP.

1996

Nicole Heiden Sodoma of Charlotte, NC, is attorney and managing principal for Sodoma Law, P.C. She earned her law degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Stamford University and practices family law.

Bo South of Charlotte, NC, is vice president of Myers & Chapman, Inc., a construction service company.

1997

Dee Ann North Fava and her husband, Mark, live in Mount Pleasant, SC. They have three daughters, Holland, Dulcie and Brier.

Carla Sutton Moore of Atlanta, GA, is a behavioral health specialist and clinical services coordinator for the City of Atlanta Psychological Services and Employee Assistance Program. She was moderator for a paneled symposium titled, Charleston's Response to the Emmanuel AME Nine Shooting: A Concerted Effort to Improve Mental Health, on March 7 in Charleston, SC.

1998

Mandy Bentley is a Teacher for the Greenville County School District, and earned her MAT in social studies from Charleston Southern University in 2001. She resides in Fountain Inn, SC.

Kyle Boyd of Fort Mill, SC, is founder and headmaster of Walnut Grove Christian School. The school is in its 17th year of operation, and has sent 12 of its graduates to the College of Charleston.

Rebecca Brumley Sager is an English Teacher at Summerville High School. She earned her MAT from The Citadel in December 2017 and lives in Hanahan, SC.

1999

Julie Andrews and husband, Alex Milligan, announce the birth of Pierce David Milligan, born in October 2017. Julie is a NYC-based Senior Copywriter and founder of Jules' Ink Copy Boutique. She contracts with agencies on digital projects and ad campaigns.

Patrick Burns and wife, Katie, are proud to announce the birth of their second son, Nolan Charles Burns, born on October 27, 2017. The family resides in Charlotte, NC.

Tori Costa Mitcheson is Vice President, Senior Project Manager at Bank of America. She resides in Fort Mill, SC, with husband, Ryan, and their two sons, Gavin and Broden.

Harriet Ethridge Selby is Marketing Product Specialist at ABB, an industrial digitalization company located in Greenville, SC. She resides in Greer, SC. with husband, Tim, and their son, Matthew.

Jill Anderson Vermillion of Hanahan, SC, is a breast cancer survivor, and a disabled United States Marine veteran who participates in the Warrior Surf Foundation, treating veterans with combat-related injuries through surfing and ocean therapy. She is also Founder and Chief Operations Officer of Shades of Vermillion, a proprietary children's program to aid early education professionals deal with the distracting behavioral challenges facing educators.

Lindsay Truluck Walker of North Chesterfield, VA, is a Registered Client Associate for Wells Fargo Advisors, located in Richmond, VA. She and her husband, Nick, have two children, Robert and Lillian.

2000

Margaret Seeley Furniss of Charleston, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She co-owns Caviar and Bananas with her husband, Kris, and was selected as one of the Forty under 40 for 2017 by the Charleston Regional Business Journal.

Sean Ruff has been elected to Partner at global law firm, Morrison & Foerster, as a member of the Financial Services Group and co-head of the FinTech Group. Mr. Ruff is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.

2001

Jay Miller is a Captain for Mobile Bar Pilots, where he serves the Port of Mobile in handling ships and commercial vessel traffic. He and his wife, Anna, live in Fairhope, AL.

Mary Katherine Reed of Charleston, SC, has joined Carolina One Real Estate Services as a Realtor. She is also owner of the jewelry business, Mary Reed Charleston, where she enjoys creating one of a kind jewelry crafted from turquoise, pearls, and sterling silver.

Daniel Waller of Davidson, NC, is IT Project Manager at Avidxchange, Inc. located in Charlotte, NC. He earned his MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2014.

2002

David Couey has joined CresCom Bank as the new Commercial Loan Officer and Vice President in the Charleston area.

Sean Deviney of Fort Lauderdale, FL, has been promoted from financial planner to Director of Retirement Plan Consulting at Provenance Wealth Advisors. Mr. Deviney has an M.B.A. from the University of Florida.

Staci Dillard Koonce of Greenville, SC, is Academic Advisor for the College of Education at Clemson University. She is currently working on her master's in youth development leadership at Clemson and expects to graduate this year.

Brad Leach of Lewis Center, OH, is Vice President and Assistant General Counsel at JP Morgan Chase Bank & Co. in Columbus, OH. He has a master's degree from The Citadel and a law degree from Capital University Law School. He and his wife, Courtney, have two children, Ella and Jack.

Amy Kisabeth Triana is Associate Director of Information Technology at Augusta University. Ms. Kisabeth resides in Aiken, SC, with her husband, Ben.

2003

Corrinne Forte Barnes and husband, Christopher, are proud to announce the birth of Fields Christopher Barnes, born on January 21, 2018. Fields joins big brother, Flynn. The family resides in Charleston, SC.

Rhetta Simon Cloyd is Vice President of Member Development at Forbes Books in Charleston. She and her family live in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Jason Dowiak is the new women's soccer Head Coach for the University of Massachusetts. Previously, he spent five years at the University of South Florida as associate head coach.

Sara Fleeman is Senior Manager, B2B Marketing at the United Way of Greater Atlanta.

Melody Davis and Juan Flores united in marriage on May 6, 2017. Melody is a district sales manager for Meritor, Inc. in Atlanta, and earned her MBA from Charleston Southern University in 2010.

Dianne Turgeon Richardson is a full-time stay-at-home mom, freelance writer and editor in Orlando, FL. She regularly gives public readings in the Orlando area and will be a panel presenter at the 2018 conference of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs in Tampa. She and husband, Kit, are proud to announce the birth of Benjamin Ellis, born on July 27, 2017.

Mary Sabatino of Chicago, was inducted into the 2018 College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame in January. Ms. Sabatino was team captain and an outstanding leader of the College of Charleston volleyball team from 1999-2003, playing in 465 sets for the Cougars. She earned her law degree from DePaul University in 2006, and is an Attorney and Partner at Wiedner & McAuliffe, Ltd.

2004

Jenessa Tookey Gjeltema of West Sacramento, CA, is Veterinarian at the University of California, Davis, and also cares for the animals at the Sacramento Zoo. Dr. Gjeltema passed the American College of Zoological Medicine's grueling two-day exam for board certification, a feat that fewer than 200 veterinarians worldwide have accomplished.

Anna Lassiter Gruenloh of Charleston, SC, is a Realtor for The Cassina Group and was featured on an episode of HGTV's popular television program "House Hunters". The episode, aired on January 9, featured several downtown Charleston properties.

Alicia Scherini Hall is In-house Counsel with Entergy, a Fortune 500 company. She is a member of the company's legal regulatory team based out of Jackson, MI, and sits on the boards of several bar associations, and is president of the Jackson Young Lawyers. She and her husband, Seth, live in the historic Fondren neighborhood of Jackson with their two children, Madeleine and Henry.

Paul Patrick has been named to the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was recently promoted to Executive Vice President, Business Affairs and CFO for the College of Charleston.

2005

Avan Allen is a Distribution Center Buyer for Natural Grocers, and resides in Denver.

Lee Curtis of Mount Pleasant, SC, was inducted into the 2018 College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a second baseman on the baseball team at CofC from 2002-03, when he hit .404 which remains the program's all-time career mark and third all-time record in Southern Conference history. He was a two-time SoCon Player of the Year and earned All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was inducted into the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.

Darren Dean and Lindsey Earnhardt Dean '06 of Roswell, GA, are proud to announce the birth of Wesley Michael Dean on January 8, 2018. He joins big brother, Ethan.

Mike Evans of Miami, is Vice President, strategic accounts at SpotX, a global video advertising firm.

Sharon Singleton Hartwell (MS) of Charleston, SC, has joined Carolina One Real Estate Services as a Realtor. She also is certified by the Treasury Department to represent people and business taxpayers before the IRS and S.C. Department of Revenue in tax audits, collections and appeals.

Colin Robertson is a Senior Care Advisor at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He reviews patient medical records and assigns them the appropriate oncologist for their cancer treatments.

2006

Kimberly Summers Flowers of Irmo, SC, has been selected for the Columbia Area Reading Council Distinguished Reading Teacher Award for the 2017-2018 school year. She earned her master's in education from Columbia College.

Dan Mroz of Daniel Island, SC, has been appointed Vice President of the Eastern South Carolina Region at PNC Corporate & Institutional Banking in Charleston. He was also recently recognized in the South Carolina Business Journal. Mr. Mroz and wife, Erica, are proud to announce the birth of daughter, Wavely Mroz, on July 23, 2017.

Chris O'Neal (M.S.) of Mount Pleasant, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is managing partner at Moody & O'Neal CPAs, LLC.

Chris Singleton and Erin Wolford '08 were married on September 9, 2017. The couple resides on Daniel Island, SC.

Elizabeth Dyar married Christian Stiff on January 1, 2017. She is co-founder of Native Collaboration, a full-service marketing agency in Richmond, VA.

2007

Megan Marshall Danowski of Philadelphia, is Vice President of Operations at AIIR Consulting, a global leadership development consultancy.

Sally King Benedict is a contemporary artist living and working in Atlanta. She creates visual texture with rich color and expressive linear techniques. Her work was featured at the Quogue Gallery booth during Art Palm Beach, in West Palm Beach, FL, in January. Mrs. Benedict has been featured in major publications including Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Garden & Gun, and Southern Living, among others.

Jade Sullivan is Chief Executive Officer at Pogo Insurance in Richmond, VA. Ms. Sullivan earned her MBA in creative technology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014.

2008

Dawn Chitty of Washington, D.C., is the Education Director at the African American Civil War Museum, Ms. Chitty produces K-12 materials for students and educators, creating programming for field trips to the museum, and marketing to schools across the D.C. area.

Ciera Gerack has joined the Terressentia Corporation as a Chemist. She holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Florida, and is responsible for research and development, and quality control for the company's North Charleston, SC, laboratory.

Ben Lasater of Jupiter, FL, is a Financial Planner and Investment Advisor at Coastal Wealth, located in North Palm Beach, FL. He earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix. He and his wife, Chelsea Albertz Lasater '08, have a daughter, Lilly, born in November of 2016.

Sarah Ailsworth of Richmond, VA, married Thomas Leonard, Jr. on September 16, 2017. Ms. Ailsworth is staffing manager at Randstad.

Ryan Morris and Rachel Rittenberg were married on January 13, 2018 in Charleston. Ryan is an Account Executive with Blackbaud and is president of the Lowcountry Alumni Chapter.

Jenn Dressel Thompson of Charleston, SC, is a science Teacher for the Dorchester School District Two, and is currently working on her M.Ed. in science and math for teachers from the University of Charleston, SC.

Ashley Whelan of Los Angeles, is starring in the lead role of Lyndsy in the independent film, "Rightful". Previously, Ms. Whelan has done improv in Austin, TX, major commercials, music videos, and has worked as writer and producer for her own short films.

2009

Amanda Click of Charleston, SC, is the Creator of First Name Basis, a wood-fired oven food truck, which she uses to produce pizzas with local ingredients in various places, including frequent appearances at local Charleston breweries.

Megan Driggers of Alexandria, VA, is an Attorney for the United States Small Business Administration, and earned her J.D. from Wake Forest University in 2014.

Loren Danese Dupuis of Kennett Square, PA, is completing her master's degree in physician assistant studies at Arcadia University, and expects to graduate in May 2019.

Amanda Jones of Bluffton, SC, is Office Manager at Jones Brothers Tree Surgeons, Inc. located on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Rick Krenmayer of Charleston, SC, has been named a member of the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is the Chairman and CEO of Stasmayer, Inc., an IT solutions and support company.

2010

Zachary Hanson recently released his book, The Art of Being Artificially Intelligent: A Millennial's Guide to Faking It Till You Make It, which provides an outline of six traits to help readers advance their careers. Mr. Hanson is the Senior Director, Global Customer Experience for Pypestream and resides in Austin, TX.

Kat Harden Kirkland is Project Lead at Spatial Data Integrations, Inc., and earned her master's in geospatial information science and technologies from North Carolina State University in 2014. She resides in Alton, IL, with husband, Dewey, and their two sons, Allston and Finn.

Keavy McAbee and Lee Marchbanks ’09 are owners of Magpie Meat & Three, a restaurant in Brevard, NC, where the couple resides. Lee is the chef while Keavy oversees the craft beer program and accounting. They have one son, Judah.

Lauren Blake Newman has been named to the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is a Realtor for Carolina One Real Estate in Charleston.

Laura Hoffman Noble is Senior Events Manager at Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile, and resides in Aurora, IL, with husband, Ryan, and two children, Kaiden and Korinne.

Helen Rosko of Worcester, MA, earned her master's in geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2015, and is currently working toward her Ph.D. from Clark University with the expected graduation date of 2020.

Matt Ward has joined Rutledge Cab Company as Executive Chef in Charleston, SC. Most recently, Mr. Ward served as chef de cuisine at the Culinary Vegetable Institute at The Chef's Garden in Milan, OH.

2011

Renee Baker Beam of Chester, SC, is Associate Director of Municipal Fixed Income at London Stock Exchange Group. She and husband, Brent, are proud parents of Luca Blace Beam, born on April 18, 2017.

Brittany Graham Brooks is Assistant Principal at KIPP Jacksonville- VOICE Elementary in North Jacksonville. Ms. Graham earned her master's in education from Francis Marion University in 2015. She and her husband, Ivan, live in Jacksonville, FL.

Kelly Zander of Charlotte, NC, is a 7th grade world geography Teacher, team leader, student council co-adviser, and digital citizenship and diversity liaison at Charlotte Country Day School. She married Keith Patterson on May 27, 2017.

Lora Thomas is a school Counselor at Midland Park Primary School and earned her master's in counselor education from The Citadel in December 2017. She resides in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Sarah Hotham and Michael Zetz united in marriage on October 28, 2017 at The Bluff at Middleton Place in Charleston, SC. The couple resides in Charleston.

2012

Dustin Haynes of Charleston, SC, has been named to the 2018 Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is an Employer and Public Relations Officer at Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union.

SaBrina Jeffcoat of Columbia, SC, is the Public Art Administrator for One Columbia for Arts and History, which works to unify and amplify the thriving arts and history culture of Columbia, SC.

Nathan Matticks starred in the role of Figaro in Palmetto Opera's performance of Rossini's "Barber of Seville" on February 2, 2018 at the Kroger Center for the Arts in Columbia, SC.

Morgan Richardson of Lake Como, NJ, graduated with a degree in nursing from Rutgers University-Newark in 2017, and is a Registered Nurse at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.

Allison Jahries is a Clinical Counselor and IOP coordinator at Circle Park Behavioral Health Services in Florence, SC. She and Matt Rogers were married on October 21, 2017.

2013

Zachariah Collins and Rebecca Cohen '15 were married on April 8, 2017 in Phoenix, AZ. Three bridesmaids and two groomsmen were CofC alumni. Mr. Collins is a Gallery Assistant at Riva Yares Gallery, and Mrs. Cohen-Collins is an Account Executive at Outfront Media.

Dannon James is a Police Officer for the Fort Mill Police Department and resides in Chester, SC.

Kristen Lowe of Florence, SC, earned her master's in occupational therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2016 and is an Occupational Therapist for South Carolina Sports Medicine.

2014

John Curtis of Charleston, SC, was recently honored as one of the College's Temporary Employees of the Year for his work with the Information Technology Department. He subsequently transitioned into a permanent position with the College as an IT Field Technician, and is pursuing graduate studies in history.

Victoria Hamilton of Brighton, MA, is earning her master's in social work from Boston College, and expects to graduate in May 2019. She recently gave a TEDx Talk in Columbia, SC, on how society can better relate to people with disabilities.

Grant Hixson is President of Genesis Consulting Group, a strategic management consulting firm, located in Montgomery, AL.

Jen Jones (M.S.) is Sustainability Coordinator at Christopher Newport University. She married Conrad Harder on January 1, 2017 and resides in Hampton, VA.
