March 2019

1973

Tanya Trescott Harper was a trailblazer at the College as the first black chemistry major, and then she became the first female Chemist hired by Bayer Corporation in Charleston. She is now retired and works part time as a floral designer and bookkeeper for her family's florist shop. Married to Rev. Remus Harper, Jr. '72, as part of Black History Month, she was honored as a Cougar Trailblazer at the men's basketball game on Feb. 14 for her impact on the College community through the years. The Harpers live in Goose Creek, SC.

1977

Louester Smalls Robinson, a resident of North Charleston, SC, serves as the Dean of the historic Palmer Campus of Trident Technical College and formerly served on the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors. At the men's basketball game on Feb. 14, she was recognized as a Cougar Trailblazer for her positive impact on the College community over the years.

1982

Mariana Ramsay Hay, her sister, and two daughters were featured in a recent Charleston Magazine article about women in business. Croghan's Jewel Box on King Street is celebrating 111 years of business in downtown Charleston, SC. The family business was started by Mariana's grandfather and continued by her mother, the late Mary Loretto Croghan Ramsay '42.

1983

Sam Hawk has written his first novel, New Boy at the Academy, which will be published March 25, 2019, by Nine Star Press and will be available in paperback or Kindle from Amazon and other retailers. The young adult novel tells the story of a shy gay boy, his punk rocker crush, and his best gal pal from the wrong side of the tracks who shake up a private academy in a small SC town. Sam and his husband, Wes, live in Dallas, TX.

1986

Dawn Brewer of Stone Mountain, GA, was selected as the Atlanta Regional Training Specialist for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.

1987

Debra Gammons recently was named President of the Charleston County Bar Association in Charleston, SC. She previously served as President of the Greenville County Bar Association in Greenville, SC. She earned her JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1992, owns a law firm, and is a Professor at the Charleston School of Law.

1988

Jamie Lominack is the Senior Corporate Real Estate Manager for Michelin North America, Inc. Jamie lives with his wife, Lori, in Spartanburg, SC.

1989

Heather Gamble Ryan is the owner of HG Ryan Benefits, LLC. Heather and her husband, Mike, live in Mount Pleasant, SC.

1992

Katherine Falls is a Real Estate Agent in downtown Charleston, SC, with Disher, Hamrick & Myers.

1993

Alexander Lyons of Conway, SC, is celebrating 15 years of serving Horry County with orthotics and prosthetic services through his practice, Lyons P&O. He and his wife, Evelyn Milley Lyons '93, have three children: Rebekah (a student at CofC), Victoria, and Zachary.

1994

John Duane received his JD from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1998. In 2014, he was selected as the Assistant U.S. Attorney of the Year, Charleston Division. He was recently promoted to Senior Counsel at Motley Rice, LLC, in Mount Pleasant, SC. He represents clients harmed by defective medical devices, implants, and drugs.

1995

Mark Polston advises transportation infrastructure clients as a Principal Consultant for Global Consultancy at WSP, based in Lexington, KY. He was previously Deputy Director of Credit Programs for the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Susan, have three children.

Dina Biel Waltz is an Assistant Professor at the Rasmussen College School of Nursing. Dina obtained her MSN in 2017 from Western Governors University. She and her husband, Chad, live in Ocala, FL, with their children, Chad, Jr. and Collette.

1996

Phoebe Drew Blalock obtained an MLIS from the University of South Carolina in December 2018, and resides in Columbia, SC.

1999

Jada Addison was elected to the 2019 Board of Directors for the Midlands Association for Talent Development (ATD) and the 2019 Board for Women of Distinction Toastmasters Club. Jada is the Training and Development Manager at Virtual Business Office in Columbia, SC.

2000

Laurin Burch was recently named to the College of Charleston Board of Trustees. A certified public accountant, he is Controller for the Pepsi Cola bottlers located in Florence and Greenville, SC. He has been involved in several non-profit and community organizations including the United Way of Kershaw County, Lyttleton Street UMC United Methodist Men, Kiwanis Club of Kershaw County, and Leadership Florence. He and his wife, Jennifer Riley Burch '00, reside in Camden, SC, with their daughters: Riley Grace, Stella, and McLaurin.

Kelly Clark managed the stabilization of Fort Jefferson and the preservation of cultural resources at Dry Tortugas National Park for over 12 years, She has transferred to the Denver Service Center of the National Park Service as a compliance specialist on major federal expenditures from coast to coast, assessing the effects of projects on cultural resources. Kelly lives in Denver, CO, but spends time on Dry Tortugas projects in Key West, FL.

Nancy McDonnell and William Nelson were married on October 7, 2017. They live in Pleasant Hill, CA.

JohnPaul Schutz is a Foreign Service Specialist with the U.S. Department of State. He and his wife, Heather, live in Smyrna, GA, with their children.

2002

Alicia Amico lives in Tewksbury, MA, where she works as the Front Office Coordinator for WellPet. Alicia celebrated six years with WellPet in February.

2004

Ellie LaBar Schwarz joined EastCoast Entertainment as an Agent in 2007, and was recently named Managing Partner, becoming the thirteenth member to join their board. She helped open an EastCoast Entertainment office in Asheville, NC, where she lives with her husband and son.

2005

Sarah Crickman has joined the Primary Care team at Roper St. Francis Physician Partners in Summerville, SC. She is board certified in family medicine and practices the full range of primary care, with special interests in preventative medicine, obesity, and hypertension. She earned her MD from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Seneca Jackson accepted a position as the Information Literacy and Outreach Librarian at the Earl S. Richardson Library at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD.

Sarah Neely Lanier was elected in November 2018 to a four-year term as District Court Judge in Randolph County, NC presiding over criminal, civil, and family courts. Sarah and her husband, Jeremy, welcomed their son, Alex, into their family on May 24, 2018, and live in Asheboro, NC.

2006

Megan Drake is the Chief Operating Officer at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, AL.

Renee Wilkins Giddens is the Executive Assistant for KPMG, LLP in Charlotte, NC. She and her husband, Jon, have one son, River.

Kate Otter recently moved to Astoria, NY, and is a Program Development Manager at Class Escapes, a boutique tour operator, developing educational trips world-wide for organizations including alumni, public radio stations, zoos, and aquariums.

2008

Allisyn Miller Morgan, and her husband, Austin Morgan '10, welcomed their son, Cameron Price, into their family on February 13, 2019. They live in the Raleigh, NC, area.

2009

Molly Hurst Bennett and her husband, Craig, welcomed their son, Craig Miller Bennett IV, on January 21, 2019. She is a Pharmacy Clinical Operations Specialist at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, SC, and earned her PharmD from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Chad Fisher opened his first business, Island Dog Pet Wash and Market, in Charleston, SC, as a premier location for locals to pamper their animals. The business offers grooming and washing services, as well as high-quality American-made food, treats, and toys.

Kyle Smith and his wife, Katie Veazey, welcomed their second child, Remy Charleston Smith, on January 21, 2019. The family resides in Missoula, MT.

2010

Lauren Boyce married TJ Del Duca at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church on October 1, 2016. The couple lives in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Austin Morgan is the Assistant Coach of the North Carolina State University baseball team. He lives with his wife, Allisyn Miller Morgan '08, and their son, Cameron, in Raleigh, NC.

2011

Sean Hughes (MPA) became Executive Director of Real Estate at William & Mary in September 2018. He leads the William & Mary Real Estate Foundation and oversees all sales, purchases, leases, easements, and other real estate matters for the Foundation and the University.

Grace Toland Osborne was recently featured in a Charleston Magazine article focusing on women in business. She is the Assisstant Buyer for Celadon Home, specializing in furniture and accessories. She has been with Celadon for more than six years focusing on their committment to sustainability and fair trade. She and her husband, Stephen Osborne '06, live in Mount Pleasant, SC.

2012

Haley Specter Davis and her husband, Will, welcomed their daughter, Harper Dalton Davis, into their family on July 14, 2018. Haley is a Strategic Project Coordinator for Greenville Health System in Greenville, SC.

2013

Olivia Asbury Arnold is a Clerk at Mediterranean Shipping Company. She and her husband, Christopher, have a daughter, Phobe Renee, born November 19, 2017. The family lives in Charleston, SC.

2014

Hannah Ruegner graduated from George Washington University in 2018 with a master's degree in public health. She lives in Charlotte, NC.

Sally Topping received her MA in 2017 from the University of Texas at Austin. Sally is a Sales Associate for Binders Art Supplies and Frames and lives in the Atlanta, GA, area.

2015

Haley Cochran married Roy A. Howell on April 21, 2018, in Charleston, SC. The couple resides in Bethesda, MD.

Bradley Maran is a Brand Advocate Analyst for Home Depot in Atlanta, GA.

Jenalyn Walton has joined Gotcha as a Marketing Specialist in the Charleston, SC, office.

2016

Alex Cottingham (MA '18) is the Sales and Business Operations Manager for Island Coastal Lager in Charleston, SC.

Emma McGlade lives in Charlotte, NC, and is the Venue Sales Coordinator for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority.

2017

Emily Beck traveled six months solo through Southeast Asia before getting a part-time position with the Riley Center in Charleston as Volunteer Coordinator for YOUth Count. She is now a Probation Officer/Community Specialist for the Department of Juvenile Justice in North Charleston, SC.

Thomas D'Andrea is the Technical Sales Manager for EM Sullivan in Paoli, PA.

Ashley De Peri is the Administrative Assistant for Legal Affairs at The Julliard School in New York, NY.

2018

KimberMarie Faircloth has partnered with Shefali Emmanuel '20 to form an employment screening software company called anonymiT. The two were able to develop their idea into a product through the College's ImpactX program. The software program prioritizes applicant skills, experience, and knowledge while blinding subjective information, such as name, age, gender, and race. She lives in Pleasant Garden, NC.

Brianna Leask is working as a Runner at McAlisters in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Brooke Swetenburg has been promoted to Events Sales and Marketing Manager at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Brooke is in charge of the office that coordinates corporate and social events and weddings. She has been with Magnolia since May 2018 and lives in the Charleston area.

Allie Watters has relocated to Washington, D.C., and is the Finance Director for Joe Cunningham for Congress. Joe Cunningham '05 was successfully elected U.S. Representative for the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina in November 2018.

Cora Webb is the Program Director for We Are Family in Charleston, SC. She is responsible for developing comprehensive solutions that promote health education, increase awareness, reduce stigma, and build strong, supportive communities to end the HIV/AIDS crisis.
