October 2018

1972

Bobbie Miller Hendrix was appointed to the Duke University Health System Board of Directors on July 1, 2018. She was Director, Clinical Risk Management for the Duke University Health System for 16 years. Bobbie lives in Durham, NC, and has three grandchildren.

1977

Ted Zorn is Head of the Institute for Executive Education at Massey University, where he served for over six years as Dean of the College of Business. He and his wife, Brenda Shute, live in Auckland, New Zealand and have one daughter.

1978

Gino Calejo, of Charleston, SC, is President of Carolina Business Brokers, a full service business brokerage. He earned his MBA from The Citadel in 1981.

Mary Holst O'Leary retired in June after 40 years of teaching in Charleston County schools. Her daughter also graduated from the College of Charleston. Mary welcomed her first grandchild in December of 2016.

1980

Wayne Mutch and his wife, Tenia, live in Greenwood, SC. Wayne is a Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, and is beginning to think about retirement. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1982.

1983

Rahul Mehra recently represented the College at the presidential inauguration for Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. As the oldest college participating in the ceremony, the College of Charleston was first in the procession of delegates. Rahul is CEO and Chief Medical Officer for MehraVista Health in Tampa, FL, and serves on both the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors and the School of Sciences and Mathematics Board of Advocates.

1991

Chris Abbott has joined the Mount Pleasant, SC, office of Capital Bank as Senior Vice President for coastal South Carolina and Georgia.

LeAnne Broadway is a Realtor for The Litchfield Company, and lives on Pawleys Island, SC.

Cindy Pittman Santa Ana is a recent graduate of the Nutritional Therapy Association and is working at the prestigious Amen Clinics and Gainesville Holistic Health Center in Northern Virginia. She is the author of Unprocessed Living.

Johnnie Baxley and his wife, Michelle, have been named National Co-Chairs of the Parent Advisory Council at the College of Charleston. Their daughter, Madison, is a sophomore at the College. The Baxley family lives in Mount Pleasant, SC.

1992

Ernest Blevins is a Structural Historian in Review and Compliance for the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office. He is also teaching history online at the University of Charleston in Charleston, WV, and writes historical columns for the Charleston (WV) Gazette-Mail.

1995

Bob Rickards is the Varsity Soccer Coach at Notre Dame Academy, and received the Division 3 Coach of the Year award for Wisconsin after his girls' soccer team won the D3 State Championship in June by defeating a six-time reigning champion. This was his second Coach of the Year award. Bob is Director, Advancement Services at St. Norbert College in Green Bay, WI.

Helen Dandy Skipper is the Owner of Dandy Time Vacations, and a certified Master Cruise Counselor with Cruise Lines International Association, Member of ASTA , IATA, Certified Autism Travel Specialist with IBBCES and a Sandals Certified Specialist. She and her husband, Norman, live in St. Augustine, FL, with their three children.

1996

Tina Cundari has joined the Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) housed within the Civil Division of the United States Attorney's Office in Columbia, SC, as a federal prosecutor. She serves on the College of Charleston Foundation Board of Directors.

Rob Fortson, of Bluffton, SC, has joined Latitude Margaritaville by Minto USA as a New Home Sales Professional.

Kevin Kurtz (MAT), of Rochester, NY, has written a new nonfiction children's book, A Day in a Forested Wetland. His earlier book, Living Things and Nonliving Things, was named a National Science Teachers Association and Children's Book Council 2018 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students K-12 and was selected for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books Longlist for 2019 Children's Science Picture Book Award.

1997

Kelly Obernuefemann (MA) is a Professor of History at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, IL. She received the 2018 Women in American History Award from the Ninian Edwards Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Alton, IL.

1998

Randy Adkins (MS '04) is the College of Charleston Alumni Association's representative on the Cougar Club Board. Randy is a Senior Consultant, Software Architecture Leader at Modus21. He and his wife, Sherlonda Peake Adkins '99, '03, live in North Charleston.

2000

Tatjana Beylotte has joined Charleston Jazz as Director of Development. She has 18 years of experience in fundraising for arts organizations and earned her master's degree in museum studies from George Washington University.

2001

Jennifer Pridgen Harriss is Executive Director of Destination Downtown Edenton in Edenton, NC. She has been named one of Business North Carolina's 2018 Trailblazers in recognition of her work with the nonprofit booster organization which promotes North Carolina's second-oldest town.

2002

Matt Hagan is Vice President, Market Officer for Regency Centers in Raleigh, NC. He oversees the leasing, redevelopment, and operations of a 2.5 million square-foot shopping center portfolio in the Carolinas and Richmond. He earned his MBA from the University of Florida in 2010.

Scott Allen Thomas is a Freelance Producer for Psyop in New York City, a multi-disciplinary studio specializing in emotive, visual storytelling for the advertising, video gaming, broadcast, and music video industries.

2004

Stephanie Felder was recently promoted to the rank of Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corp. Ranked in the top 1% of the Health Services Officer category, she is serving as a Social Science Research Analyst in the Center for Clinical Standard & Quality. Stephanie will defend her doctoral dissertation in November entitled "The Life Course of Homeless Female Veterans: A Qualitative Study".

Hillary Rich Fowler is the Founder, CEO, and Owner of Nook and Cranny Company Antique and Heirloom Restoration in Greenville, SC.

Erica Rovner Rabhan has joined the Medical University of South Carolina as the Director of Development for the College of Health Professions. She and her husband, Michael Rabhan '03, live in Charleston with their two children.

2005

T.J. Clayton has been named one of Columbia, SC's Best and Brightest 35 and Under by Columbia Business Monthly. He is Assistant Vice President, Contact Center for Colonial Life, and volunteers with EdVenture Children's Museum and S.C. Male Achievement, a one-day workshop providing encouragement and empowerment to men and boys from fatherless homes. He and his wife, Victoria, also counsel local couples on navigating the adoption process. They have two sons, Max and Cannon.

Lee Hinton recently joined SiteOne Landscape Supply in Charleston, SC, as Business Development Manager.

Liz Stehling has been awarded a free studio artist residency for one year at the Charlotte Street Foundation in downtown Kansas City, MO. She is the Digital Marketing Manager for Kansas City Ballet, and earned an MFA in visual art from the Pratt Institute.

2007

Amanda Raynor Lowman is a teacher at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, NC. She earned her MEd in curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University - Central Texas in 2013.

2008

Danielle Lynne Smith Burke is Director of Student Activities at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. She earned a master's degree in higher education from Vanderbilt University in 2010.

Dave Holaday was 2014 Westview Middle School Teacher of the Year, and is now working with the Dorchester County School District as a 6th Grade Science Teacher. He is also one of six owners of the craft brewery, Oak Road Brewery, in Summerville, SC, which focuses on the production of German beers. They have a tap room and currently distribute across the state of South Carolina.

2009

Michael Jowers was recently licensed as an LPN and is a Regional Program Manager with the American Red Cross deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

Kyle Spicher and Ann Bell Spicher welcomed their second child, Reid Hinson Spicher, on September 26, 2018. Reid joins his big sister, Ellison Grey. Kyle earned his MBA from Charleston Southern University and is a Business Analyst for Charleston ENT & Allergy. Ann is Senior System Analyst at MUSC and earned her MHA there in 2012.

2010

Sarah Vining Crisafulli, of Kensington, MD, is Vice President, Brand Strategy, for GKA Advertising, a boutique marketing firm.

Caroline Eubanks' first book, This Is My South: The Essential Travel Guide to the Southern States, was published October 1 by Globe Pequot Press. It's a guidebook to the offbeat attractions, unique accommodations, and old school eateries of the South.

Alex Bahan Farish and Chris Farish announce the birth of their daughter, Emmalyn Grace, on August 10, 2018. Emmalyn joins big brother, Joey. Both Alex and Chris are graduates of the Medical University of South Carolina. Alex is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow at Augusta University, and Chris is a Dentist at Edgefield Family Dentistry. The Farish family lives in Augusta, GA

2011

Megan Gamwell is working with the City of National City, CA as Economic Development Specialist. She and Fabio Campanaro were married on December 28, 2017.

Shannon Vaughn Hodges and Coleman Hodges '09 , of Hanahan, SC, welcomed a daughter, Anne Davis Hodges, on August 1, 2018.

Claire Voegele graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and is Law Clerk to the Honorable John E. Waites of the United States Bankruptcy Court in Washington, D.C.

2012

Melanie Holland and Rico Orr '13 were married on September 1, 2018. They met through a friend at CofC, and feel like their relationship started in Cougar Mall. The bridal party included: Courtney Gerstenmaier Felton '12, Stephanie Haney Miller '13, AJ Johnson '12, and Shi Johnson '12.

Sara Smith worked in Berkeley County School District as a High School English Teacher and was a Rookie Teacher of the Year finalist for BCSD in 2013. She is now an Assistant Principal at Myrtle Beach Middle School.

2014

Madison Edwards-Bednar has accepted a new position as Student Counselor for the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

Cori Lehrman is an Account Manager with Obviously, an influencer marketing firm in New York City.

Brittnee Leysen and Cameron Ross were married on August 24, 2018. Britnee has been awarded the Ross Fund for Scottish Research. This will allow her to spend a month in New Zealand doing fieldwork for her doctoral thesis in Celtic Studies at the University of Glasgow.

Zachary Schwartz , of Coral Gables, FL, started Inner Workings Art which specializes in aquatic skeletal articulations and trophy mounts.

2016

Rebecca Fox works for U.S. House of Representatives member William Keating as a Legislative Correspondent in Washington, D.C.

Elena Mpougas earned her master's degree in marine biology from Bangor University in the United Kingdom, and was recently interviewed by Greek TV about her research on the world's most endangered seal species, the Mediterranean monk seal. She is a Consulting Associate for Plastic Pollution Solutions in Charleston, SC.

Caitlin Billard and Caralie Byrnes incorporated a media company called Connections Media with two other business partners. They are traveling across the U.S. producing a filmed documentary-style show, print/photo book, songwriter series, and mentorship program.

Madeline Leibin is earning a master's degree in conflict resolution (public policy) at Tel Aviv University. She is scheduled to graduate in 2019.

Krissy Mummey is playing professional volleyball in Germany after leading the College of Charleston volleyball team back to the NCAA Tournament in 2017, and being named Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. She has signed a contract with SC Union Emlichheim of the German 2nd Bundesliga.
