September 2018

1974

Harlan Greene of Charleston, SC, is Scholar in Residence at the College's Addlestone Library. A historian and Lambda Literary Award-winning author, his latest book, The Damned Don't Cry, They Just Disappear, reconstructs the life and times of Harry Hervey, a gay Southern writer from the first half of the twentieth century who challeged the sexual mores of his day.

1976

Julie Dingle Swanson (MEd '80) is a Teacher Education Professor at the College of Charleston and was recently recognized for her 20 years of service to the College.

1979

Suzanne Manseau Green is CEO of Millie Lewis Models & Talent in Summerville, SC. She is also a producer for Gathering Talent Productions which produced a short independent film, Where's Stephanie. It recounts the real-life story of a grandmother's journey to find her granddaughter who was given up for adoption.

1982

Charles Sullivan of Charleston, SC, is Broker and Partner at Carriage Properties LLC. He was recently recognized nationally by REAL Trends for his market leading individual sales in 2017. Ranked 222 out of the top 1000 real estate agents in the country, he took top rank in Metro Charleston and South Carolina as well.

1984

Vicky Shields of Johns Island, SC, is the Director of Finance at the new Hotel Bennett in downtown Charleston.

1985

Mary Pat Hill is a Veterinarian and Owner of Project CatSnip, a low-cost spay and neuter clinic in the greater Atlanta area. She earned her DVM at the University of Georgia.

1986

Ronnie Warner is Vice President of Lending at SAFE Federal Credit Union. He and his wife, Kathy Combs Warner '86, live in Elgin, SC.

1988

Edward Hart is Professor and Chair of the Music Department at the College of Charleston, and recently celebrated 20 years of service to his alma mater.

1989

David Frederick of Charleston, SC, directed the short indie film, Where's Stephanie, which recounts the real-life story of a grandmother's hope to be reunited with her granddaughter who was given up for adoption. He is also Artistic Director for Gathering Talent Productions, the company which produced the film.

1990

Rebecca Liles Grist of Macon, GA, has been named Georgia's 2018 Solicitor General of the Year. She is Solicitor General for Macon-Bibb County and a graduate of Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law.

1991

Peter Rourk was recently elected to the Foundation Board of Christchurch Episcopal School in Virginia. The position serves a six-year term and oversees the school's endowment. He is Founder of Rourk Capital Partners, a private equity firm located in Chapel Hill, NC.

Ahmad Yusuf of Reston, VA, is an Enterprise Architect at Lockheed Martin Corporation. He earned his master's in management information systems from George Mason University.

1992

Christy Daughtridge Galloway of Pickens, SC, teaches business at R.H. Gettys Middle School in Easley, SC.

1993

Marcia Snyder is a Senior Instructor of Finance at the College of Charleston and was recently recognized for her 20 years of service to the College.

1995

Ann Pritchett Palms is the Director of Athletics at Lincoln School in Providence, RI.

Michael Renault has opened Image360 in North Charleston, SC. The locally owned and operated company provides high quality professional graphic solutions to regional businesses and organizations, and is a member of Alliance Franchise Brands franchise network with more than 600 locations in the U.S., Canada, and the United Kingdom. Michael is President of the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors.

1996

Heather Zak Ramsay is a Dentist with her own practice in Suffolk, VA. She earned her DMD from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2001. She and her husband, Jamie, have three sons.

Melissa Ford Vagts of Derby, KS, is a Clinical Associate Professor for the speech language pathology graduate program at Wichita State University College of Health Professions. She earned her MS in speech language pathology from the University of South Carolina. She and her husband, James, have one son, Cameron.

1997

Rosanne Mitev Dates of Myrtle Beach, SC, is a Community Development Specialist for Horry County. She earned her MPA from the University of Delaware in 2018. Her daughter, Lauren Camille Davila is a sophomore at the College of Charleston.

1998

Tony Brown of Williamston, SC, is Operations Director at Foothills Alliance, a child advocacy center. He and his wife, Cristal, have two sons, Hunter and Chandler.

Brett Elrod of Mount Pleasant, SC, has signed a contract to purchase one of the last shrimp boat docks on Shem Creek, in hopes of saving the docks for shrimp boats. He is an environmental geologist and owner of CB Elrod Co., LLC, which specializes in custom residential, commercial, and historic construction.

Beth Guerard Maglione of Washington, DC, has been promoted to Executive Vice President at the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

1999

Amy Brisbane Neloms of Birmingham, AL, is Executive Director, Student Support Services for Birmingham City Schools. She earned her MEd in secondary school counseling from The Citadel.

2000

Nahal Badiian Miller earned her DMD from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2004, and is a Dentist at Apex Family Dentistry in Apex, NC. She and her husband, Trevor, were married in 2013.

Lisa Saxman Cates (MAT '03) of Summerville, SC, is a Teacher for the Charleston County School District.

2001

Jay Karen (MA) is CEO of Daniel Island-based National Golf Course Owners Association and chairman of We Are Golf, the national lobbying group that represents the game's business interests on Capitol Hill. He presented the Association's 2018 economic impact report at the National Press Club in Washington, DC earlier this year.

2002

Jonathan Miller and Anna Evans '05 of Charleston, SC, were married on October 14, 2017. Anna is Managing Editor of Charleston Magazine and Jonathan is Author and Illustrator of the Sammy the Wonder Dachshund children's book series.

Tiffany DeVane of Columbia, SC, is a School Psychologist for Lexington School District 1, and earned her MA and EdS from The Citadel in 2006. She and Vernon Rich were married on June 23, 2018.

2003

Erin Armstrong is Founder and Psychotherapist at Erin Armstrong Therapy on James Island, SC. She earned her MSW from the University of South Carolina, and is certified to provide intervention to individuals struggling with drug and alcohol abuse and/or dependency. Her other specialties include depressive, personality, and anxiety disorders. She and her husband, Tylar Murphy, welcomed their first child on January 31, 2018.

Dylan Howe of Minneapolis, MN, is Political Sales Manager at Comcast Spotlight.

Laetitia Sobiesuo is the Associate Registrar for Records Retention and Grading at the College of Charleston. She recently celebrated 20 years of service to the College.

2004

Don Fenhagen has been with IBM since 2004, when he was introduced to the company through CofC's Career Center. He made Partner in 2016, and runs the IBM Homeland Security division. He was recently named one of the Top 10 Execs to Watch in National Security by the Washington Executive.

Michael Naylor is Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Direct Mortgage Loans in Hunt Valley, MD. The company has eight locations and has recently opened a new branch in Charleston, SC.

2005

DeNina Lewis Hoquee and her husband, Adrian, have accepted teaching positions in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia at Dhahran Hills School. Nina earned her MS in special education, severe disabilities from Simmons College in 2009, and will be teaching kindergarten in Dhahran.

Joel Stewart and Tiffany Jones Stewart have two sons and live in Aiken, SC. Joel has bought and sold a CPA firm and is now Partner at Serotta Maddocks Evans & Co., CPAs, the largest local firm in the Aiken area.

2006

Kim Oriscak of Toms River, NJ, is a Supervising Medical Interpreter of Spanish at Eric B. Chandler Health Center at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. She earned her MA in Spanish translation and interpretation from Rutgers University in 2008.

David Plyler of Nashville, TN, is co-manager of the Zac Brown Band, where he is responsible for creating the ultimate customer experience for Zac Brown Band fans. He recently came back to campus and spoke to a class about his time at the College and his professional journey.

2007

Natalie Coffin graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a doctorate in clinical psychology in July 2018. She will be starting her post doctoral fellowship at the University of Denver.

Megan Hunt Dell of Johns Island, SC, has been named the 2017 Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year by the South Carolina Bar. She is a 2010 graduate of the Charleston School of Law, and owns Dell Family Law. Her pro bono work focuses on representing low-income litigants and advocating for underserved populations.

Gena Long of Wadmalaw Island, SC, married Christopher Lyons on February 24, 2018. She is a Fish Biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Caitlyn Franke Minns of Boynton Beach, FL, launched a homeschooling concierge business in 2018 called Brain Pals.

2008

Johnny Caldwell and Taneka Reaves '11 are Charleston hospitality bloggers and co-founders of Charleston's Cocktail Bandits. They have recently published a book based on their blog, Holy Spirits! Charleston Culture Through Cocktails. The book covers the past and present of cocktails in the Holy City.

Allen Flaherty is a Customer Success Manager for Benefitfocus, and has recently relocated to work remotely from Seattle, WA.

2009

Tim Legare and Nicole Spitzer were married in April 2018 in Charleston, SC. Tim received his MD in May 2018 from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine along with Nicole, and both are in residencies at the Louisiana State University Hospital in New Orleans. The couple spent their honeymoon on a medical mission trip to Senegal.

Jessica Sisco married Christopher Moore in February 2018. She earned her MS from Walden University in applied psychology, and is a Project Director at Medefield in Columbia, SC.

Jeanmarie Tankersley of Greenville, SC, was recently named one of Greenville's Legal Elite by the Greenville Business Magazine. She is a Litigation Associate at Clawson & Staubes, LLC, and earned her JD from the University of Georgia. She also serves on the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board.

Alex Tureman of Washington, DC, is Senior Advisor to the Ambassador of Australia to the United States. His role involves providing strategic advice on a range of issues that aim to further the US-Australia alliance.

Brooke Spivey Whitson (MS '11) of Gaithersburg, MD, is the Digital Strategist and Project Manager for Van Eperen, an integrated communications agency specializing in public relations, marketing, social media, and digital strategy.

2010

Erin Wendel Player and husband, Alexander, announce the birth of their son, Ascher Alexander Player, born on June 17, 2018. The family resides in Madeira, OH.

Sarah Ward Stern and husband, Daniel, announce the birth of Beaufort "Beau" Hunter Stern on July 17, 2018. Sarah is a Programs Manager for therapeutic recreation with the City of Charleston Department of Recreation.

Catherine Gryniewski and James Woods '12 were married on April 28, 2018. Catherine is a Marketing Manager for Belmond, Charleston Place, and Jim is an Operations Manager for Nolan Transportation in Charleston.

2011

Jeff Breunsbach is Director of Accounts at Customer Imperative in Charleston, SC.

Brandon Ellis of Point Mugu, CA, is a Naval Flight Officer for the U.S. Navy's carrier platform, E-2C Hawkeye. He and his wife recently welcomed their first child, James.

Tessie McCoy of Pineville, NC, has published her first book, Wilderness: Poems by Tessie McCoy, a collection of poetry which chronicles her life after the passing of her mother when she was twelve years old. She earned her MBA from Webster University and is a Fraud Investigations Specialist at Synchrony Financial.

Jeremy Simmons and Crystal Waters Simmons '12 announce the birth of Zachary Austin Simmons, on August, 14, 2018. Jeremy spent the last basketball season playing forward for Basic-Fit Bruxelles in Brussels. This season, he will play for Poderosa Montegranaro in Italy.

Caitie Sprague of North Easton, MA, is the Executive Producer of VINCIBLE, a documentary film project aimed at spreading awareness for the young adult cancer experience. The film premiers in Chicago on September 15, 2018.

Will Taylor of Winston Salem, NC, was recently recognized on the Forbes "America's Top Next-Generation Wealth Advisors" list. He is Wealth Management Advisor, Vice President for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

Henry Veach of Charleston, SC, married Liz Soileau on July 21, 2018. He is a Software Developer for Booz Allen Hamilton.

2012

Susie Hallatt (MA) is Director of Graduate Admissions at the College of Charleston and was recently recognized for her 20 years of service at CofC.

Erin Minnigan of Mount Pleasant, SC, is a Preservation Planner and Board of Architectural Review-Small Administrator for the City of Charleston. In this role, she has helped develop guidelines for elevating historic buildings in downtown areas prone to flooding. She earned her masters in urban and regional planning from the University of Florida in 2015.

Cameron Moon of Charleston, SC, is Assistant Curator of Historic Architectural Resources for the Drayton Hall Preservation Trust.

Bailey Reed and Jack Wolfe '13 of Charlotte, NC, were married on June 6, 2015. Jack is a Service Center Manager for Southeastern Freight Lines.

2013

Olivia Ahern married Victor Schmidt on July 21, 2018, in Newport, RI. Olivia is a doctoral candidate in biological oceanography at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography in Narrangansett.

2014

Hunter Adams is Associate Attorney at Baker Ravenel & Bender in Columbia, SC. He earned his JD from American University's Washington College of Law in May 2017.

Parker Bednar (MS '16) and Madison Edwards were recently married and are living in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Madison earned her MEd in college student affairs from Rutgers University and is a Student Counselor for the School of the Arts and Sciences at Rutgers.

Meghan Burgess married Chris Brunetti on September 3, 2017. Meghan is a Major Gifts Officer for the Atlanta Police Foundation. The couple lives in Marietta, GA, with their two children, Jaden and Evan.

Lauren Hurlock of Mount Pleasant, SC, has joined the Charleston City Paper as Web Editor.

Cameron Oakley and Sarah Boyle met on the College's swim team and were married on November 18, 2017. The couple lives on Daniel Island, SC.

Kevin Patton of North Charleston, SC, is saxophonist for the jazz quartet, The Absolutes, which performed at The Gibbes Museum in August. He recently released a full-length jazz album that he composed and arranged himself.

2015

Kristin Brig (MA '17) and Anthony Ortiz were married on May 26, 2018. She is earning her Ph.D. in history of medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, and expects to graduate in 2022. She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student designation in the master's in history program at the College of Charleston.

Lundy Davis of Charleston, SC, has graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with her MA in physician assistant studies. She has passed the board certification exam and plans to move to Colorado.

2016

Emily Hoisington of Goose Creek, SC, is Founder and Executive Director of Charleston Hope, a local organization which strives to provide equal opportunities and resources to students and faculty of Title 1 schools.

2017

Hope Reilly (MA) and Edward Longe (MA) were married on May 25, 2018, and live in Milwaukee, WI.

Dontre Major is a portraiture photographer whose series, Black AmeriKKKa, explores black history from enslavement to the present day. The series earned the title of best in show during The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Arts' Young Contemporaries exhibit earlier this year.

Sara Powell of Earl Park, IN, has been selected by Florida Community Bank to participate in the Florida Community Bank Masters Program, a six-month intensive training program designed to develop financial skills and abilities in young banking professionals.

Caroline Ruttenberg of New York City, is a second grade teacher at Classical Charter Schools of the South Bronx, a school which promotes college readiness. She has named her classroom Charleston.

2018

Grace Adam is Business and Planning Analyst at M&T Bank in Amherst, NY.

Maxx Bradley is Pianist for the jazz quartet, The Absolutes, which performed at The Gibbes Museum in August. He will be earning his master's degree in composition and experimental sound practices at the California Institute of Arts in Santa Clarita, CA.

Joe Chealey of Apopka, FL, has been signed to the Charlotte Hornets' training camp roster. An undrafted free agent, he participated in the 2018 MGM Resorts NBA Summer League with the Hornets. He was in the starting line-up for the final game, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Jordan Davis of Washington, DC, is Environmental Protection Specialist at the DC Department of Energy and Environment.

Megan Landau of Glendale, CA, is an Associate Software Engineer for Disney ABC Television Group.

Scott Nord of Charleston, SC, is Co-Founder and Broker in Charge of Stone Management Group, a full-service property management, residential and commercial brokerage firm that also operates as an asset management group. He recently passed his brokers exam.
