September 2019

1974

Doc Norton is the Senior Writer for the prestigious Lejeune Leadership Institute at the Marine Corps University in Quantico, VA. He will research, analyze, and write military case studies for the US Marine Corps. His 10th book, Letters from a Yankee Doughboy, is a complete collection of more than 120 letters written by Doc's grandfather, Private 1st Class Raymond W. Maker, detailing his day-to-day life during World War I in France. Doc and his wife, Helen, live on their farm in Fredericksburg, VA.

1976

Cathy Jancauskas Newcomb is a Stylist for J. Jill and lives with her husband, Rich, in Dayton, OH. Cathy earned her MS in psychology from the University of West Florida.

1978

Ranger Blouin and his wife, Joann, just returned from a three-week hiking trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Ranger is no longer playing for the folk group, The Wayfarers, but still loves pickin' and singin'. The Blouin family lives in Lexington, VA.

Lesa Mathis Eisele and Bill Eisele live on Lake Murray in Gilbert, SC. Lesa retired as a School Teacher from Richland District 2, Blythewood Middle School, after 28 years of teaching language arts and science. Bill retired as an Account Manager in August after 36 years with SCE&G.

1982

Mickey Redmond Barber has been CEO/CMO of Cenegenics Carolinas for 10 years and recently founded Better Life Carolinas, an age management and wellness center located in Mount Pleasant, SC. She graduated from MUSC in 1986, completed her residency at Tulane University, and finished her fellowship at Harvard. In November 2012, Dr. Barber was presented with the Alan P. Mintz Award for Clinical Excellence in Age Management Medicine. She and her husband reside on Isle of Palms and share a blended family of five children and two granddaughters.

Steve Warner is the new Assistant Vice President for the Clemson University Office of Corporate Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives in the Lowcountry. Steve, who most recently served as the Charleston Regional Development Alliance's Chief Strategist, will be based at the Clemson University Restoration Institute in North Charleston, SC. He and his wife, Jan, live in downtown Charleston.

1983

Ginny Zemp has been named Executive Director of the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site, and will start leading the Revolutionary War museum and battlefield in Camden, SC, in September. Previously, she served as the Director of Development for the South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston.

1984

Helen Pruitt Butler has been recognized by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors for her outstanding sales production in 2018 as a Realtor for William Means Real Estate. She placed in the top 10%, or Silver, category. She and her husband, Herb, live on James Island, SC.

Maurice Ungaro earned his master's in historic preservation from the University of Georgia in 1994. He is the Town Manager of Brooks, GA, and resides in Fayetteville, GA, with his wife, Carlotta.

1985

Jane Powers Huggins and her husband, Rex, live in Florence, SC, and have three children: Mary Elizabeth, Charles, and Aleksey. Mary Elizabeth graduated from the College in 2015.

Carol Reiss Maynard transitioned from Director of Community Relations at Clarendale at Indian Lake to Sales Director at Elmcroft Senior Living community. Carol and her husband, Greg, live in Hendersonville, TN.

1986

Mike Finch Jr. has been chosen as President-elect for the South Carolina Medical Association for 2019-20 and will be inaugurated as President in May 2020 in Greenville, SC. Dr. Finch has practiced for 26 years with Sandhills Pediatrics and is now the second most senior partner in the group. He is married to alumna Jennifer Clark Finch '87 and they live in Columbia, SC. The couple has three children, including alumna Riley '18, Trey, and Clark.

Lee Monts retired as a Program Manager with the Bureau of Land and Waste Management of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control in April 2018, after 29 years of service. As an established artist in South Carolina, he was recruited by Golden Artist Colors, Inc. out of New Berlin, New York. Lee is now a certified Working Artist for Golden, and is one of only 35 worldwide artists currently working with this certification. He resides in Columbia, SC, but his teaching territory includes Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

1988

Anthony Meyer is a Senior Consultant for Rogge and Associates, a consulting firm assisting nonprofit organizations with philanthropic initiatives and capital campaigns. Anthony lives in Charlotte, NC.

1989

Jody Gottlieb is a recipient of the George Peabody Award, the World Wildlife Fund Golden Panda Award, and the Grace Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by women in media and entertainment. She also received an Academy Award nomination for the documentary "Autism is a World." Jody has joined Arizona PBS in Phoenix as Content Director after 11 years at CNN and serving in leadership roles at two other creative media outlets in Seattle, WA.

1990

Wendy Donnelly Thrower is a Real Estate Agent at Handsome Properties in Charleston, SC. She and her husband, Jay, have designed and built new homes as well as renovated older homes in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Charleston. Wendy retains real estate licenses in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

James Tuten was the 2019 recipient of the Beachley Award for Distinguished Teaching at Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA.

1991

Tracey Floyd Hagy has been a Registered Nurse in the postpartum unit at MUSC for over 16 years. She and her husband, Todd, live in Mount Pleasant, SC, with their two children.

1992

Becky Lloyd Dalton is a Senior Project Manager with Capsule Technologies based in Andover, MA. She and her husband, Carl, live in Norfolk, VA, and have two sons, Samuel and Tillman.

1993

Carl Blackstone is the President and CEO of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. He was ranked #15 on the Free Times Power List of the 50 biggest power players in the Midlands of South Carolina for 2019. He and his wife, Mary Addison Heckard Blackstone '96, reside in Columbia, SC, with their four daughters.

Shealee Furr Harmon has been promoted to Vice President and CFO at C.R. Hipp Construction in Charleston, SC. She joined the company in 2016 as a controller and has more than 22 years of experience in accounting.

Susan Motley is the Staff Attorney, Fifth District Court of Appeals at Dallas. For the first 22 years of her career, she worked in both a private practice and a non-profit public interest firm in various locations in Texas.

1994

Katherine Zorn was promoted to Vice President, Member Value at AARP in Washington, D.C.

1995

Andy Everheart is a Physician Assistant at Augusta Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists. He lives in Evans, GA, with his wife Heather and their two children. Andy has recently been travelling with the US Swim Team working as their physician assistant, athletic trainer, and massage therapist pre- and post-race at the world championships in South Korea.

1996

Lancie Affonso (MS '08) has been promoted to Director of the Undergraduate Data Science Program at the College of Charleston.

Michael Henderson joined Pinnacle Financial Partners as a Senior Vice President and Credit Advisor for the firm's Mount Pleasant, SC, office. He received his IMBA from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.

1998

Dan Darby has been promoted to Captain for Clarendon County Fire Department after serving as a volunteer firefighter for 17 years. Dan is also the General Manager for Sparrow and Kennedy Tractor Company. He and his wife, Christina, have two children and live in Summerton, SC.

Dr. Shane Mull is Commander of the SC Army National Guard Medical Command. He and his wife, Liz Page Mull '91, live in Blythewood, SC, with their two children, Loder and Mabry. Shane earned his MD from the University of South Carolina in 2004 and a master's degree in healthcare administration from MUSC in 2016

1999

Nicole Scheman married Travis Bray on July 20, 2019, on Honeymoon Island in Florida. They adopted their son, August Joe Bray, on July 16, 2019, and live in Clearwater, FL. Nicole earned her PhD from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in natural resource and environmental management in 2010.

Bryan Eastman is President of luxury, custom home building company, Stokesman Homes, in Atlanta, GA. In his free time, Bryan is a Volunteer Pilot for Angel Flight, where he invests his own pilot time, plane, and money to provide transportation for patients in need of medical treatment far from home. He is also a Past President of the Atlanta CofC Club.

Bekah Bair Hollingsworth and Lee Hollingsworth work for Hutto's Transmission, a family-owned business since 1955 in St. Matthews, SC. They have three daughters: Cait, Chapel, and Cameron.

Brad Mitchell is the Deputy County Attorney for Dorchester County and a certified Circuit Court mediator. He has two bachelor's degrees from the College and a Juris Doctor from the Charleston School of Law. Prior to his undergraduate studies, Brad served in the US Army and SC National Guard.

Susannah Munson is the Curator of Anthropology for the University Museum at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. She holds a master's degree in biological and physical anthropology from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Theresa Nissen is the Finance Administrator for Loftus Construction in New Jersey. She has two daughters, Alanna and Alexandra, and resides in Moorestown, NJ.

John Tiller and his family just returned from a two-year sabbatical in Paris, France. John is now the Lead Certified Financial Planner Practitioner in the Charleston office of Webster Rogers Financial Advisors. He and his wife, Aimee, along with their two children, live in Mount Pleasant, SC.

2000

Kathy Walko Boyce is the principal of T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School in the Old Tappan School District. She lives in Mt. Arlington, NJ, with her husband, Chris.

Regina Leonard DNP, MAT, RN presented at the 29th International Nursing Research Congress for Sigma Theta Tau in Melbourne, Australia, in July 2018. Her research abstract was titled "Chronic Disease Prevention: African Americans Who Live in Food Desert Using Access, Training, Education (ATE)." She is a Complex Care Research Nurse for Kaiser Permanente in Rockville, MD.

2001

Kristyn Heck Ackerman joined Agent Owned Realty's Mount Pleasant, SC, office as a USAA-certified Realtor. Kristyn specializes in helping military-affiliated homebuyers and sellers.

Amanda Bunting Comen has joined the City of Charleston's Commission on Women. She is the Owner of Social ABCs, a company providing social media management and strategy, public relations, and marketing. She and her husband, Kyle Comen '02, live in Charleston with their son, Harrison.

Claudia Seeger previously worked as an art teacher before pursuing a career as a Realtor with The Cassina Group in Mount Pleasant, SC. Claudia is active in the arts community, including the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and the Redux Contemporary Art Center. She earned her MAT in art and MEd in education administration from the University of South Carolina.

Noel Wurst is the Senior Manager of Communications for SmartBear in Somerville, MA.

2003

Alicia Fogle has joined Pinnacle Financial Partners in their Mount Pleasant, SC, office as Senior Vice President and Credit Adviser. She has 13 years of financial experience and is a certified public accountant.

Seth Gadsden is the Director of Indie Grits Labs, an arts organization serving Columbia, SC, and the Southeast through community-based art projects, media education programs, and the Indie Grits Festival, an event celebrating Southeast culture though film, art, music, and bits. Seth was ranked #50 on the Free Times Power List of the biggest power players in the Midlands of South Carolina in 2019. He and his wife, Jamie Self '02, live in Columbia, SC.

Katie Lockard Jayne has been named Director of Community Life and Compliance at Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community in Charleston, SC.

Anna Hamilton Lewin has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of the SC Community Loan Fund. Anna has more than 15 years of nonprofit industry experience. She received her master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina.

Chris Mercer is an IT Systems Administrator for Curtiss-Wright in Summerville, SC.

Jeremiah Pope is Chief of Staff for the Honorable Charlotte Crutchfield, a representative to the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 19 in Annapolis, MD.

2004

Morgan Brynnan is the Medical Librarian and Manager at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville, CA. In 2006, she graduated from the University of South Carolina with her Master of Library and Information Science degree and worked as a Faculty Reference & Instruction Librarian at Butte Community College, where she was awarded the President's Excellence in Service Award in 2009, 2011, and 2014. She also sells rare first edition books through her online website: Uncommon Works.

Burt Connelly is the Park Operations Manager for Dorchester County Government. He has one son, Bentley, and lives in Summerville, SC.

Jessica Saxon Fludd has accepted the role of Assistant HR Director for the Private Diagnostic Clinic of Duke Health. She lives in Durham, NC, with her husband, Marlin, and their three children.

Bob Flynn is the new Global Account Manager for ReliaQuest, a cybersecurity threat response and security program visibility company based in Tampa, FL. He and his wife, Jackie, live in Holly Springs, NC.

Sylvia Ashford Jones obtained her master's in rehabilitation science: physical therapy in 2007, from the Medical University of South Carolina. She a Physical Therapist and Manager at Brookdale Senior Living Community in Columbia, SC.

Melissa Moore is the Director of Operations for Housing for All - Mount Pleasant. Since 2010, Melissa has served as Executive Director of We Are Family, an organization that focuses on the needs of LGBTQ+ and straight ally youth. Melissa resides in Charleston, SC.

Matt Rautenbach and Taylor Thomasino Rautenbach moved from Seattle, WA, with their four-year-old twins and live near Remley's Point in Mount Pleasant, SC. Matt is an Account Executive for Workday, a leader in HR and finance applications. Taylor works for Samsung Electronics America as a Region Sales Manager focused on homebuilders.

2005

Derek Estep is the Felony Chief for the Washington County District Attorney's Office and resides in Brenham, TX. Derek received his JD from the Charleston School of Law in 2008.

2006

Elizabeth Garner Oskvarek and her husband, Paul Oskvarek, Jr., are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Abigail Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a World Language teacher in Howard County, MD, and teaches middle school French and Spanish. The Oskvarek family resides in Glen Burnie, MD.

Katherine Wolfe Wallace and Jason Wallace, of Charlotte, NC, welcomed their third child, Jason Victor "Wally" Wallace Jr. on July 21, 2019. Wally joins big sisters, Charlotte and Brawley.

2007

Jenna Bradley is a Commercial Relationship Manager with Wells Fargo Bank in Greenville, SC. She was selected as one of Greenville Business Magazine's Best & Brightest 35 and Under for 2019, presented by Furman University. She is completing her MBA at Clemson University.

Alex Brown is a Teacher at River Oaks Middle School in North Charleston. She and her daughter, Harrison-Lee, live in Summerville, SC.

Meghan Lee received her MFA in poetry from Columbia College, Chicago in 2009. Meghan is the Assistant Director of Donor Engagement and Prospect Development for the American Civil Liberties Union in New York City.

John McKay (MPA '07) is the new President and CEO of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association (MMA). He has worked for the MMA for 11 years as the Executive Vice President and the Deputy Director of Government Affairs. He and his wife, Kasey, have three daughters and reside in Jackson, MS.

2008

Chad Abushanab is the winner of the 2018 Donald Justice Poetry Prize. His debut poetry collection, The Last Visit, was published by Autumn House Press in March 2019. Some of his poems have also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Believer, and Best New Poets. Chad will be attending the Sewanee Writers' Conference as a Walter E. Dakin Fellow this year. He received his MFA in poetry from Vanderbilt University in 2012 and his PhD in creative writing and literature from Texas Tech University in 2019. He lives in Iowa City, IA, but hopes to return to South Carolina in the future to teach and continue writing.

Toni Rossi married Lee Blanchard on November 2, 2018. She is an Associate and Certified Public Accountant at Legare + Bailey + Hinske in Mount Pleasant, SC, and received her master's in accountancy from Wake Forest University in 2012.

Phillip Padgett (MS) has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the SC State Ports Authority. He lives on Daniel Island, SC.

Markeita Warren-Barber has been named principal of Bethune Elementary School in Kershaw County, SC. She earned her MEd in instructional accommodations from Francis Marion University and her MEd in administration and supervision from Wesleyan University. She and her husband, Torri, live in Camden with their daughter, Ava, and their son, Torri Jr.

Cam Worsham joined the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce as Membership Engagement Director.

2009

Caroline Millard Boone is Head of Adventures for Airbnb in Los Angeles, CA. She recently led a major product launch with their June debut of Airbnb Adventures.

2010

Mike Sutherland (MS) is the Senior Geospatial Analyst at Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm in Denver, CO. Mike has 10 years of experience and recently worked for the Cooperative Institute for Research and Environmental Sciences for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the University of Colorado Boulder.

2011

Jeff Breunsbach and Christina Reynolds '12 were married on September 2, 2018, and live in North Charleston, SC. Jeff was recently promoted to Managing Partner for Customer Imperative, a B2B SaaS consulting firm. He focuses on customer success operations and works with private-equity backed companies across the country. Christina recently completed her Physician Assistant training.

Trelacsha Smiley Spillers (MED '14) taught high school science for seven years before becoming a Real Estate Agent in the West Ashley office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Southern Coast Real Estate. She and her husband, Terrance, and their three children live in North Charleston, SC.

Rebecca Straney is creating her own original works under her new production company, Good Creature Films, based in Los Angeles, where she produces commercials, indie films, and documentaries. Rebecca is also creating a NYC-launch campaign for a startup called Modern Fertility and producing a documentary on food justice that takes place in Charleston, SC.

2012

James Brock (MBA '16) has been promoted to Development Manager for Twin Rivers Capital, LLC in Charleston, SC. He holds a SC real estate license and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. He is currently seeking his Certified Commercial Investment Member designation.

Dee Richardson is the Owner and Executive Pastry Chef of Swank Desserts, located in North Charleston, SC.

Samantha Milbauer Silverberg and Jonathan Silverberg '11 live in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and have one daughter, Hallie Rose, born December 7, 2017. Samantha received her MHA from Florida Atlantic University and works as a Controller for Tenet Healthcare. Jonathan is a Store Manager at Sherwin-Williams.

2013

Mae Armaly is the new Development Officer at the University of South Carolina, Beaufort. She married Zack Young on June 23, 2018, at the Daniel Chapel at Furman University.

Stephen Brown is a Surgical Neurophysiologist for Specialty Care and lives in Beaufort, SC.

Brooks Clark, of Santa Monica, CA, was promoted to Broadcast Associate B-Crew for College Football on Fox Sports for the 2019 College Football season.

Dancy Eve Dickson has joined Handsome Properties as a Real Estate Agent. She and her husband, Baker, live in Charleston, SC.

Dannon James is a Probation Officer for the United States Courts, District of South Carolina and resides in Port Royal, SC.

Jacob Oblander is completing his master's degree in environmental geographic information systems at Unity College. He is an Environmental Health Manager for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control in Columbia, SC.

Forrest Halsey Westley earned her Pharm D from MUSC in 2018. She is a Pharmacist at Pure Compounding in Myrtle Beach, SC. She and her husband, Brian, live on Pawley's Island with their son, A. O. Halsey Wesley, and daughter, Caralyn Westley '22.

2014

Meghan Burgess is a Senior Campaign Consultant for Winkler Group in Mount Pleasant, SC. She lives on Johns Island.

Paula Whisler is an Account Manager at Rakuten Marketing in Chicago, IL. She married Terence Coppola at the William Aiken House in downtown Charleston, SC, on April 13, 2019. The couple's wedding was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings online.

Nathan Johnson (MBA), a Corporate Law Attorney with Buxton and Collie, LLC, has been selected as a 2019 Forty Under 40 winner by the Charleston Regional Business Journal. Nathan is a co-author of the 2019 South Carolina Bar publication, South Carolina Business Law Handbook: A Practical Guide for Business Owners, Entrepreneurs and Their Counsel. He is also a Board Member for the Charitable Society of Charleston and part of Leadership Charleston's Class of 2019.

Dylan Judson lives in Santa Monica, CA, where he is the Partner Success Manager with Ring at Amazon.

Cori Lehrman and Bert Schewel married at Great Marsh Estate in Bealeton, VA, on July 6, 2019. The couple lives in Brooklyn, NY, with their cat, Luna. Cori is a Client Success Director at Obviously, an influencer marketing platform company. Bert earned his PhD in Classics, and is a Graduate Teaching Fellow at Fordham University.

Suzelle Santos and Brandon Wagner '15 were married in downtown Charleston on July 20, 2019. The couple has relocated to Hartford, CT, where Suzelle is an award-winning journalist and Brandon is a software engineer.

2015

Joe Affsprung has been promoted to Project Manager at Dorchester County Economic Development in Summerville, SC.

Timothy Crann received his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Miami in 2018. He is a Physical Therapist at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.

Melissa Jacobs is an Instructor of Communications at the University of South Carolina Beaufort - Bluffton campus.

Caroline Kenny has been promoted to CNN's Embedded Reporter/Producer covering the 2020 presidential election from South Carolina. Caroline will be living in Columbia, SC, and covering all of the 2020 presidential candidates as they come through the state of SC by shooting video for CNN shows, writing stories for CNN's website, and asking questions of the candidates about the state of the race and their campaign.

Ryan Laders is the new Senior Advisor, Rx Personalization - Enterprise Career Maps for CVS Health in Woonsocket, RI. Ryan has held many roles at CVS, starting as a Senior Consultant in 2015, and most recently acting at the Supply Chain Advisor.

Charlie Polovoy is an Assistant Superintendent at J. Musselman Construction in Charleston, SC.

2016

Annie Dunn was promoted from Senior Account Executive to Account Manager at CRAFT | Media/Digital in Washington, D.C. Annie has been with the company since she was an intern directly after graduation.

Meg Gould (MA) is the Coordinator for Events, Outreach, and Public Relations for the Department of Communication at the College.

Amanda Howard is the Sales and Marketing Coordinator for Dottie's Pharmacy on James Island in Charleston, SC.

Kara Manning has been promoted to Branch Manager at CHD Interiors in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Julie O'Grady married Patrick Youells on December 30, 2017, in Goose Creek, SC. She is a Teacher at Glen Allen Elementary School in Glen Allen, VA, and is studying educational technology at James Madison University with plans to receive her MEd in 2023.

2017

Will Hardison is an Account Manager at Pearl Public Relations in Charleston, SC. He is also a freelance and contributing writer for Charleston Grit.

Jamie Heidt has been promoted to Assistant Restaurant Manager for the Four Season Hotel restaurant, Bourbon Steak, located in Washington, D.C.

Meagan Hunter lives in Tampa, FL, and works as a Ticket Sales Representative for the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team.

Chrisandrea Nguyen was chosen as a Woman to Watch by the Charleston Business Magazine. Chrisandrea received medical and esthetics training at medical spas and physician's offices before purchasing Anne Bonny's Lash & Skin Boutique and creating a day spa in the Avondale section of Charleston in 2018.

CJ Rehborn received her MPH from Drexel University in June 2019. CJ is a Staff Consultant for McBee Associates, providing managerial and financial consulting services to the health care industry in Wayne, PA.

Kevin Shields is an Associate focused on office and industrial leasing at Belk|Lucy in Charleston, SC.

Katie Skelly is the Social Media Manager for Spring Design Partners in New York City.

Molly Stichter is an Associate 1 at Silicon Valley Bank in Santa Rosa, CA.

Krista Moyer Vera is an Owner and Realtor for a locally owned property group at Keller Williams in Charleston, SC. Krista married Omar Vera on November 17, 2016. They have four children and reside in North Charleston, SC.

Joanna Walker is studying Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Topical Medicine at the University of London with plans to graduate in 2021. She is a Clinical Laboratory Assistant for Bozeman Health.

Matt Whipple (MBA '17) is the Director of Participant Services in the Mount Pleasant office of Cummings Wealth Management Group. He has been a Certified Financial Planner professional since 2004 and has been providing financial guidance for 18 years.

2018

Brooks Bowden is an Associate Account Manager for the marketing and advertising firm, Jellyfish, in Baltimore, MD.

Emma Collins (MS '19) is an Environmental Hydrologist for Robinson Design Engineers in Charleston, SC. She recently earned her master's degree in mathematics from the Graduate School at the College of Charleston.

Kayla Ingle is studying nursing at MUSC with plans to graduate in May 2020. She lives in North Charleston, SC.

Will Henry Lawrence and his wife, Ellie, welcomed their first child, Augustine "Gus" Francis Lawrence, on July 23, 2019. The family lives in Covington, KY.

Wiebke Mason is a French teacher at Carolina Springs Middle School in Lexington, SC.
